Job Description
Montgomery College, Rockville and Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campuses, have immediate needs for full‑time Operations and Maintenance Leads. The work schedule is five days per week (40 hours). The Takoma Park/Silver Spring position meets Monday‑Friday 6:30 am to 3 pm; the Rockville position meets Monday‑Friday 2:30 pm to 11 pm. This is a non‑bargaining, non‑exempt, grade 27 position. For non‑exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College.

FT Operations and Maintenance Leads are responsible for leading and performing work associated with the effective and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and building heating, ventilation and air‑conditioning systems (HVAC). Responsibilities include monitoring and executing work assignments or special projects, instructing and guiding staff, inspecting completed work, and maintaining work records.
Duties- Provide guidance and instruction to assigned staff engaged in mechanical, building automation control systems, and HVAC services.
- Monitor, inspect, and review work of assigned staff to ensure it is performed according to established standards. Identify training needs and coordinate or conduct in‑house training.
- Perform routine tasks associated with maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment including heating and air‑conditioning systems, controls, and related subsystems and components.
- Ensure Direct Digital Controls systems are properly calibrated and operate as designed.
- Perform operational tests of new and existing system command and control points.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained and serviced according to manufacturer requirements and that all mechanical rooms are safely maintained.
- Respond to customer concerns and resolve issues; coordinate contract services and monitor contractor work.
- Identify issues and challenges within the unit and develop strategies to resolve them.
- Identify materials and equipment needed to perform duties and the type and/or quantities required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or completion of a vocational program in the building heating and cooling trade or equivalent training.
- Five years’ experience in the facilities maintenance field, including one year experience in a team‑lead or foreman role.
- The equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise may be considered.
- EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
- HVAC Journeyman License or Maryland Stationary Engineer 3rd‑grade license.
- Working knowledge of the methods, techniques, procedures, standard practices, tools, and materials common to HVAC repair, maintenance, and installation.
- Ability to understand, troubleshoot, and repair complex mechanical and building automation systems as well as stand‑alone mechanical equipment.
- Ability to comprehend mechanical drawings, specifications, sketches, and work orders; prepare material lists and specifications, and use hand tools and testing equipment employed in the HVAC trade.
- Ability to instruct, train, and work cooperatively with others; communicate effectively and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Eligible applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
$31.69–$41.19 per hour. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $50.39 per hour.
