Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician II – District 3 – Prince George's and Montgomery Counties – Grade 12 (7125) SP#26-83-12
Nature of Work:
The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician II will perform routine maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment and to assist in performing major repairs and overhauls on vehicles and heavy equipment. This includes diesel powered, electronic computerized, and fuel injected equipment.

Minimum Qualifications Education- Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- Three years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles, gasoline and/or diesel engines, or heavy-duty construction equipment. One year of the required experience must include servicing and repairing heavy duty construction equipment and diesel engines.
- Applicants may substitute additional documented and relevant experience repairing, servicing and maintaining automobiles, trucks, buses or comparable equipment on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- Completion of an accredited training program for Heavy Equipment or Diesel Repair may be substituted for one and one-half years of the general experience. The accrediting body for the training program must be listed on the U.S. Department of Education's Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.
- U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.
- Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for two years of the required education. (The two years of experience used to qualify for ASE testing is considered an integral part of this substitution and cannot also be considered separately to meet Education or Experience Minimum Qualifications.)
- Certification as a Master Technician in one or more subject areas by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education.
- Employees are assigned duties that require the operation of motor vehicles. Employees must possess and maintain a Class C motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
- Employees are required to possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland during the probationary period, depending on the type of equipment operated.
This position is considered an essential employee and is subject to all 24 hours a day, 7 days/week for inclement weather and/or other emergency events. Must be reachable and respond to calls after work hours.
Legal and EligibilityThe State Highway Administration is not sponsoring new employees in application of the H-1B Visa or providing an extension of an existing H-1B Visa at this time due to budgetary constraints. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
