Associate Youth Director – Part Time | Germantown United Methodist Church

Germantown United Methodist Church

Germantown, Tennessee

Overview

Our church is on a mission to disciple teenagers into lifelong followers of Jesus — not just church attenders, but young people who know they are loved, equipped, and called.

We believe the middle & high school years are a critical window for spiritual formation. Teens need more than just a place to hang out. They need a community that’s safe, real, and rooted in grace. A place where they can ask hard questions, grow in their faith, and be mentored by adults who genuinely care.

That’s where you come in.

We’re looking for someone who brings energy, joy, and a deep love for students. Someone who can turn awkward silences into belly laughs, help a new student feel seen, and celebrate growth. You’ll partner with our Bible-teaching youth director to create the kind of youth group students want to invite their friends to — one that’s fun, welcoming, and grounded in Scripture.

If you’re outgoing, playful, passionate about helping students encounter Jesus, and ready to make a real impact, this could be your calling.

What You’ll Do

  • Create a welcoming, high-energy environment every week that helps students feel at home and want to come back.
  • Build relationships with students that go beyond church walls
… showing up at games, grabbing coffee, texting encouragement, and being present.
  • Bring the fun — plan engaging activities, lead silly games, and help make youth group something students look forward to.
  • Support the teaching and discipleship work of our Youth Director by reinforcing biblical truths through connection, conversation, and creativity.
  • Partner with volunteers and equip them to build meaningful connections with students.
  • Contribute to larger youth events like retreats, camps, mission trips, and worship nights.
  • Help shape the culture of our youth ministry into one that’s joy‑filled, spiritually formative, and relentlessly welcoming.

Who You Are

  • You love Jesus and have a passion for discipling teenagers.
  • You’re outgoing, friendly, and naturally connect with students.
  • You’re not afraid of a little chaos (in fact, you probably thrive in it).
  • You believe fun and faith don’t have to be separate.
  • You’re grounded in kindness, patience, and joy.
  • You know how to work on a team and can take initiative without needing a spotlight.
  • You’re reliable and organized enough to make sure things actually happen.
  • Ideal for someone seeking a second job or a primary part‑time position.
  • Have previous experience in youth ministry or working with teens.
  • Are willing to dress up in a goofy costume or take a pie to the face for the sake of the group.

Qualifications

  • A growing, vibrant faith and a personal commitment to following Jesus.
  • Alignment with United Methodist beliefs.
  • Availability for weekly programming, seasonal events, and occasional travel.
  • Background in education, ministry, or working with youth preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry event materials, decorate, and be physically active when needed.
  • Willingness to submit to Safe Sanctuaries policies and complete required training.

This Role is for You if…

You’re looking for more than a job. You’re looking to make a difference in the lives of students during one of the most defining seasons of their life. You want to laugh hard, love well, and help teens encounter the transforming love of Jesus…one relationship, one moment, one Wednesday night at a time.

Typical Weekly Hours

Will be needed on Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, and Wednesday evenings as well as administrative hours throughout the week. Expect 20‑25 hours per week. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
