Job Description
Are you a highly skilled tradesperson looking to take the next step in your career? We're searching for a dynamic and motivated Industrial Mechanical Welder to join our elite team. This is more than just a job; it's an opportunity to leverage your expertise in a challenging, fast-paced industrial environment with clear pathways to leadership roles.
Core Responsibilities and Duties
Key responsibilities for an industrial mechanical welder typically include:
- Mechanical Maintenance and Repair: Performing preventative and corrective maintenance on heavy industrial equipment such as crushers, conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, and engines.
- Welding and Fabrication: Using various welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick) to join, fabricate, custom build, or repair metal parts and structures according to blueprints, diagrams, or engineering drawings.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Reading and interpreting technical documents, blueprints, and weld symbols to plan layouts and procedures and ensure products meet specifications.
- Material Preparation: Measuring, cutting, grinding, and cleaning metal surfaces and components using manual and power tools (e.g., angle grinders, plasma cutters) before welding to ensure strong bonds.
- Quality Control and Inspection: Inspecting completed welds and mechanical work to identify defects, ensure structural integrity, and verify compliance with quality standards (e.g., OSHA, MSHA, AWS standards).
- Equipment Operation: Operating machinery such as forklifts, overhead cranes, and hoists to move heavy materials and equipment safely.
- Safety Adherence: Following strict safety regulations and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes.
Successful industrial mechanical welders typically possess a combination of technical and soft skills:
- Education/Training: A high school diploma or equivalent, combined with technical training or completion of an apprenticeship program is common. Certifications (e.g., from the American Welding Society (AWS)) are often preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in multiple welding techniques (MIG/GMAW, TIG/GTAW, Stick/SMAW) and experience working with various metals like steel, aluminum, and alloys.
- Physical Stamina and Dexterity: The ability to lift heavy objects, work in various positions (overhead, vertical, confined spaces) for extended periods, and have steady hands for precision work.
- Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to diagnose mechanical issues, troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, and make corrective repairs in a fast-paced environment.
- Work Environment: The role can involve working indoors in manufacturing facilities or outdoors on construction/industrial sites, potentially in loud, hot, or demanding conditions.
We are extremely competitive, client-focused and realize that our value is in our ability to deliver the right solutions at the right time.
