GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under supervision of the Public Spaces Supervisor , the technician will engage in maintaining and repairing City Campus property and other public spaces, Oaklawn Gardens, and the Farm Park. Additionally, responsible for the maintenance of the City's urban forest to include parks, public spaces, and trails. Perform manual labor and more technical aspects of the job is required to accomplish assigned tasks.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques commonly used in construction, maintenance and repair activities as related to assigned areas in park maintenance.
- Knowledge of standard safety practices and precautions applicable to tree work.
- Skill in communicating in person on a one-on-one basis and in writing for the purpose of obtaining, clarifying or giving information.
- Skill in operating tools and equipment used in park maintenance and tree maintenance.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, operation manuals and chemical application instructions.
- Ability to work effectively above 30 feet off the ground
- Ability to follow and understand written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to effectively train and lead subordinate employees in assigned work projects.
- Physical ability to perform essential job duties.
High School graduate or GED with park or tree maintenance experience or any combination of education, training, and experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform essential job functions.
WORKING CONDITIONSMajority of work is outdoors in all weather conditions. Work requires lifting heavy objects, as much as 50 lbs. a distance of four feet from the ground. Work assignments may require stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling in awkward positions and standing for extended periods of time.
