CNC Machinist

This role involves setting up and operating a variety of CNC and manual machines to produce precision components for industries such as food packaging, construction, automotive, and medical equipment. You will use your machining expertise, programming knowledge, and blueprint-reading skills to ensure high-quality parts are produced efficiently and accurately in a clean, well-organized machine shop.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate a variety of CNC machines, including lathes, mills, and multi-axis equipment, to produce precision parts to specification.
  • Operate manual lathes and mills, including Bridgeport-style machines, to support production and one-off or prototype work.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to determine machining operations, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Edit and adjust G-code and M-code programs at the machine to optimize cycle times, improve quality, and resolve machining issues.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers to inspect parts and verify conformance to specifications.
  • Set up and run VTLs (Vertical Turning Lathes), HMCs (Horizontal Machining Centers), VMCs (Vertical Machining Centers), and other multi-axis machines as required.
  • Monitor machines during operation, make necessary adjustments, and troubleshoot issues to maintain consistent quality and throughput.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following shop procedures and best practices.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve processes, reduce scrap, and enhance overall machining efficiency.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on experience in CNC machining, including setup and operation of CNC lathes and mills.
  • Ability to operate manual lathes and manual mills, including Bridgeport-style machines.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Experience editing and working with G-code and M-code programs at the machine control.
  • Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to verify part dimensions.
  • Experience working in a machine shop environment with a variety of CNC and manual equipment.
  • Capability to work with VTLs, HMCs, VMCs, and multi-axis machines.

The role is based in a clean, organized machine shop environment that emphasizes safety and quality. You will work with a range of equipment including CNC lathes, manual mills and lathes (such as Bridgeport machines), VTLs, HMCs, VMCs, and multi-axis machines, using precision tools like calipers and micrometers. First shift options typically run from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., while second shift options typically run from 2:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The shop promotes a collaborative, family-style atmosphere where machinists support one another and take pride in their craftsmanship.
