Chemical Compo under – PMF Laboratory (Pre-Mix & Frozen Lab)

This role operates within a specialized compounding laboratory that produces advanced adhesive and technical chemical compounds for aerospace and other technical industries. The Chemical Compo under sets up and runs advanced blending equipment, executes specialty compounding processes, and supports technical teams by trialing new formulas, troubleshooting materials and processes, and scaling up successful products. The position is highly technical, hands-on, and offers strong opportunities for career progression in a clean, well-organized lab environment.

Responsibilities
  • Operate, set up, adjust, disassemble, and clean advanced blending and mixing equipment used for adhesives and other technical chemical compounds.
  • Perform specialty and technical chemical compounding processes within the PMF Lab, including batch mixing, blending, and compound preparation.
  • Run new chemical formulas and new compounding processes for technical teams, conducting trial runs to evaluate performance and process viability.
  • Troubleshoot product, formula, and process issues, working closely with technical personnel to correct or improve materials, formulations, and processing methods.
  • Conduct and audit material checks, in-process inspections, post-packaging evaluations, and cleanliness checks to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Follow specific chemical processes, batch tickets, and safety procedures with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Act as a pilot plant operator by performing scale-up activities for new and existing chemical compounds, supporting transition from lab trials to broader production.
  • Collaborate daily and weekly with Quality, Engineering, R&D, and production personnel to share feedback, optimize processes, and support technical projects.
  • Teach, coach, and train other lab personnel on new products, chemical processes, and compounding procedures once they are validated and implemented.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure blending equipment and lab spaces meet required cleanliness and operational standards.
  • Accurately document compounding activities, batch information, and process adjustments in accordance with lab and production requirements.
  • Use strong math skills to follow and adjust technical formulas, calculate batch sizes, and ensure proper measurements and ratios in all compounding work.
Essential Skills
  • Strong experience as a chemical operator or compo under, with hands-on expertise in chemical compounding, batch mixing, and blending processes.
  • Proficiency working with adhesives, specialty compounds, and technical chemical formulas in a laboratory or production environment.
  • Ability to interpret and follow chemical formulas, batch tickets, and detailed process instructions with precision.
  • Strong math skills to work with technical formulas, measurements, ratios, and batch calculations.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot chemical processes, materials, and equipment issues and implement practical adjustments.
  • Comfort working closely with technical teams, including R&D, Quality, Engineering, and production staff, and providing clear, constructive feedback.
  • Ability to operate, set up, adjust, disassemble, and clean advanced blending and mixing equipment safely and effectively.
  • Commitment to following chemical safety procedures, process controls, and cleanliness standards in a laboratory setting.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in a compounding laboratory environment, particularly dealing with specialty compounds for aerospace or other technical industries.
  • Background in adhesive compounding, formula development, or specialty chemical manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with pilot plant operations or scale-up activities from lab trials to production batches.
  • Comfort teaching, coaching, or training other personnel on new products, chemical processes, and compounding procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate clearly with technical and production colleagues.
