AV Support Technician
Gettysburg College is currently seeking a full-time AV Support Technician reporting directly to the Associate Director of Campus Life. The AV Support Technician position is responsible for:
- Installing and supporting AV equipment in enhanced classrooms and other AV-equipped campus spaces
- Performing preventive and cycle maintenance of enhanced classrooms and all AV-equipped campus spaces
- Troubleshooting and resolving AV issues in enhanced classrooms and other AV-equipped campus spaces
- Administering and supporting videoconferencing systems
- Maintaining accurate equipment records in the inventory system, including modifications, additions, and deletions of individual pieces of equipment
- Managing the AV loaner program, coordinating requests to borrow equipment such as portable sound systems, voice amplifiers, digital data projectors, and portable screens
- Instructing faculty, staff, and other users on the operation of media equipment in classrooms and other AV-equipped spaces
- Staffing events requiring AV support as part of a Tech Team alongside the Associate Director of Campus Life and student workers
- Coordinating with campus clients to plan and execute AV setups for meetings, events, and presentations
- Developing Statements of Work with external vendors and repair companies, seeking appropriate approvals prior to engagement
- Assessing the effectiveness of current equipment and recommending improvements during cycle maintenance or capital projects
- Making approved purchases for new and replacement hardware
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will hold a high school diploma or equivalent. A Bachelor's degree or specialized training in communication technology, instructional technology, or a related field is highly desired. AVIXA certifications (CTS or equivalent) are preferred. A valid driver's license is required, and candidates must maintain a favorable driving record in accordance with the College Fleet Policy. A minimum of two years of experience in AV installation, maintenance, and support is highly preferred, as well as familiarity with Crestron AV systems and videoconferencing platforms.
Experience in a higher education environment is preferred.
The successful candidate will have:
- Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to provide prompt and courteous support to faculty, staff, and other campus clients in both routine and live event troubleshooting situations
- The ability to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and equipment issues quickly and effectively, making sound decisions under pressure
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate equipment inventory records
- Working knowledge of audio/video signal types, connection types, cable and adapter applications, and a broad range of AV equipment makes and models
- The ability to learn and apply new technical information and assess emerging technologies for potential campus applications
- The ability to work independently, as a team player, and remain flexible and responsive to the changing needs of the campus environment
Physical Requirements:
This person must be able to travel (includes walking) from their office location to any point on campus, including top floors of buildings with no elevator. Must be able to move a wide range of AV equipment from one location to another. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Should be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
