GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Plans, organizes, implements, and delivers special education services and instruction at the state school for youth who have been adjudicated delinquent of felony offenses, assigned to a high security correctional facility, and have a wide variety of temperaments and specialized needs. Provides direct instruction in a resource classroom, in-class support in a regular classroom, and out-of-class supplemental support to students who need an alternative setting for additional services.

Work involves assessing students, providing individualized, competency based instruction, and maintaining a positive teaching/learning environment in which youth are guided and encouraged to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per workweek and be on-call.

Plans, prepares, and delivers instructional activities that facilitate an active learning environment.

Observes and evaluates youth's performance and development; provides appropriate feedback on work; and encourages and monitors the progress of individual students.
