Responsibilities
  • Know and demonstrate the Company Mission Statement and Core Values daily.
  • Maintain uniform standards as detailed in the Employee Manual for all worked hours.
  • Greet guests with a smiling face, use the Guest Services script, and offer a 5% discount at Specs locations, collect the Specs Key, call guests by name, suggest add‑on items, and promote the charity of the month.
  • Operate cash register or electronic scanner, look up products, and scan correct barcodes.
  • Use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment properly.
  • Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and promote the monthly charity.
  • Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers and ensure accurate charges.
  • Redeem coupons, weigh produce items when required, and ensure accurate pricing.
  • Ask guests to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction; never answer on their behalf.
  • Check acceptable identification and use 36 sign‑in to ensure legal sales.
  • Accept cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards and issue receipts and change.
  • Count change back accurately to the guest.
  • Bag or box merchandise appropriately, using bags or bottle protectors as needed.
  • Assist with carry‑outs when needed and feasible.
  • Compute and record totals of all transactions on a daily record sheet.
  • Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain proper till balance.
  • Keep the work area clean and neat and avoid overstocking the counter.
  • Count down the drawer at the end of the shift and prepare the final drop.
  • Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  • Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  • Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  • Avoid using a personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  • Monitor the checkout station, ensuring all needed tools are in stock.
  • Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
  • Carry out directives from management efficiently.
  • Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  • Possess time‑management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Manage stress in a fast‑paced environment and stand for most of the shift.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
  • Complete other projects and tasks assigned by management.
  • Clean the restroom when required.
  • Maintain attendance and timeliness.
  • Requirements
    • High school diploma or GED preferred; relevant retail or customer service experience is also desirable.
    • Cash handling experience and familiarity with cash‑handling procedures.
    • Basic mathematics for cash transactions, including the ability to calculate discounts and percentages.
    • Strong communication skills, including phone etiquette.
    • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos.
    • Bilingual skills are a plus.
    • Valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit is required; a Food Handlers Permit may be required for some duties.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally; to push or pull 50–100 pounds occasionally.
    • Capacity to stand, walk, and bend frequently; good visual acuity, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
    Physical Demands

    Standing, walking, bending, and lifting are performed regularly. Proper lifting techniques and tools should be used to minimize injury risk.

    Work Environment

    The retail environment may present moderate noise levels and exposure to outside weather conditions when delivering service outside the store.

    Hours

    Full‑time: 35 hours per week, with availability for any shift on Friday or Saturday and at least 80% availability for all shifts. Part‑time:
    Up to 25 hours per week.
