The Painter is responsible for the proper utilization of materials and equipment to perform routine maintenance, preventive maintenance, unit turnover refurbishment, and other such work as assigned. Duties are performed throughout the Herons Key campus under all types of weather conditions. The Painter will also be responsible for paint room upkeep, neat and orderly supply rooms, and some inventory work.

Pay: $22-$27/Hour

Schedule - M-F - 830-5 – On call – 1 weekend a month

Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 403(B) plan (Eligibility on 403b – 20+ hours per week) – We match 50 cents for every dollar saved up to 10% of your annual salary. Matching begins the first of the quarter following 1 year of employment. Full-time employees are eligible to accrue up to 16 paid time off days, 6 paid holidays and 3 personal days.

Pro-rated paid time off is available to part-time employees.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Prepare surfaces for painting or finishing by scraping, sanding, washing, or otherwise removing dirt, grease, old finishes, and rust scale; remove paint from surfaces by using sanders, wire brushes, paint and varnish removers.
  • Preparatory to painting, make minor repairs in plaster, sheetrock, metal, wood and masonry surfaces by filling with putty, caulks, fiberglass, resins, etc.
  • Apply primers, sealers, stains, and undercoats with brushes, rollers, or spray painting equipment, striping machines, etc., paint machinery, piping, floors, and walls; apply hi-tech industrial enamels and epoxies.
  • Prepare and finish or refinish woodwork and cabinets.
  • Mix and blend colors for a wide variety of paints, epoxies, high performance industrial enamels, etc., for brush, roller, conventional or airless sprayers.
  • Move furniture and place protective drop cloths, tape baseboards, glass, and other surfaces when needed.
  • Clean brushes, rollers, spray and other painting equipment with water, solvent, thinner or other appropriate cleaners to keep equipment and tools in good working condition.
  • Tape and flush smooth wall sheetrock joints using trowels, hawks, taping knives and other taping equipment. Apply texture material to walls and ceilings using texture machines, pumps and hand tools, install vinyl and paper wall covering.
  • Install, work from, and remove scaffolding, stages, planks, ladders, jacks, spider staging and other work platforms.
  • May operate and perform minor maintenance on sandblasters, power washers, and airless and conventional paint sprayers.
  • Inform Director of Facilities of materials needed and/or are required to carry on shop or maintenance work.
  • Observe safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain records on work performed.
