Shift: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm with Tuesday and Wednesday off
The Department of Corrections (DOC) seeks a licensed practical nurse (LPN4) to provide comprehensive nursing care at the Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW) in Gig Harbor.
A 62.6‑acre facility located approximately two miles from Gig Harbor, the WCCW includes living units, administration buildings, a health clinic, education buildings, a gymnasium, a chapel, industries buildings, food service buildings, and support facilities.
Under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered nurse, the LPN4 will support DOC’s mission to improve public safety by delivering nursing services that promote health, foster healing, and support coping and adjustment to various health conditions.
Responsibilities- Use tools, techniques, and physical and cognitive skills to practice nursing safely and effectively in the correctional setting and within the scope of practice defined by state law and administrative code.
- Delegate and assign tasks to other staff as appropriate.
- Self‑evaluate and practice professional nursing conduct at all times.
- Provide effective communication and documentation.
- Administer medication.
- Provide competent patient care.
- Two years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse, OR an unencumbered Multistate License from a participating Compact State with completion of Suicide Prevention, EDIR training, and MLS demographic survey.
- Initial and continuous unencumbered licensure in the State of Washington as an LPN.
- Training by the American Heart Association in Healthcare Provider CPR.
- Proficiency in computer‑based programs for scheduling, monitoring, and tracking patient information; data entry; word processing; and email.
- Experience working as a nurse in an acute care setting or a correctional facility.
