Registered Nurse 2 – On Call (RN2)
Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW), Gig Harbor, WA
ShiftOn‑Call – various work schedule expected.
Shift Differential- $2.50 per hour for evening or night shift work.
- $1.00 per hour for hours 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
- $3.00 per hour for hours from Friday midnight to Sunday midnight.
- Be available for all shifts (day, swing, graveyard) including weekends and holidays.
- Work 10 shifts per month to qualify for benefits.
- Provide written availability by the 10th of each month for the following month’s coverage.
- Complete a paid three‑week correctional worker core training (M‑F 8:00–4:30 p.m.).
- Practice nursing safely and effectively in the correctional setting and within the scope of practice defined by state law.
- Assess, monitor, and interpret objective and subjective data.
- Develop nursing diagnoses and outcomes.
- Plan the delivery of health care, defining time frames and pathways, prioritizing and sequencing care.
- Implement care plans by providing direct patient care, directing others, obtaining provider orders, and accomplishing interventions in a timely manner.
- Analyze and evaluate the structure, process, and time frames for service delivery, revise the plan of care as necessary.
- Use safety techniques to push, pull, lift, and carry loads.
- Delegate and assign tasks to other staff as appropriate.
- Delegate responsibility for patient care to other nurses and assistive personnel, considering needs, condition, stability, potential for harm, complexity and predictability.
- Teach, instruct, monitor, supervise, and evaluate implementation of tasks and outcomes assigned to others.
- Direct and supervise subordinate health‑care staff assigned to a patient care area.
- Make nursing assessments and initiate treatment protocols.
- Ensure practice is consistent with state licensure laws, administrative rules, policies, and procedures.
- Communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and via electronic media with incarcerated individuals, families, health‑care personnel, custody, and institutional personnel.
- Protect the confidentiality of health records.
- Maintain accurate, legible, and complete patient‑care records.
- Write nursing care plans and interdisciplinary treatment plans; complete other entries that support the problem‑oriented health‑care record.
- Legibly document clinical findings, rationale, and plans for actions taken.
- Provide competent nursing services.
- Assess subjective and objective symptoms during triage, ambulatory clinics, and infirmary rounds; initiate appropriate interventions according to policies, treatment plans, and protocols.
- Administer medical and nursing treatment, including medication administration, dressing changes, vital‑sign monitoring, specimen collection for laboratory analysis, IV placement, traction, and assistance with minor surgeries.
- Establish therapeutic relationships that preserve professional boundaries with patients.
- Counsel, teach, and assist incarcerated individuals.
- Provide accurate, authoritative information to groups and communities.
- Actively participate in the Correctional Healthcare Team.
- Act as a job coach and mentor during on‑the‑job training of new employees.
- Participate in Health Services Quality Improvement activities.
- Practice per DOC policy and WA DOC Health Care Plan.
- Participate in formal clinical oversight per facility and DOC Health Services Clinical Oversight structure.
- Respond to health‑care emergencies throughout the facility and institutional grounds.
- Provide emergency medical care, including CPR and triage, to incarcerated individuals, staff, visitors, and community members.
- Always self‑evaluate and practice professional nursing conduct.
- Be in attendance, capable, and competent to practice nursing as assigned.
- Remain on duty until an adequate replacement arrives and communication ensures continuity of patient care.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Initial and continuous unencumbered licensure in the State of Washington as a Registered Nurse, OR an unencumbered Multi‑State License from a participating Compact State with completion of the MSL demographic survey.
