Accounting Specialist
Purpose Statement
The job of Accounting Specialist is for the purpose/s of performing difficult accounting technical work requiring independent judgment and knowledge related to District financial procedures; and performing technical, clerical and reporting tasks related to these assignments.
Essential Functions
* Attends in-services, classes, workshops, conferences for the purpose of providing the District with new policies and procedures.
* Directs and assists individuals, school districts departments, county, state and other agencies for the purpose of providing information, interpreting and applying accounting rules and regulations, resolving disputes and facilitating accounting operations.
* Documents activities/actions for the purpose of providing accurate record/s and an audit trail.
* Establishes/maintains statistical and financial information systems, records, files, inventories and other accounting records for the purpose of ensuring proper processing of data and providing necessary information on assigned accounts, programs or special projects.
* Interprets Title 15 and USFR guidelines for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and compliance.
* Monitors files including budgets, revenues, and expenditures, data and information (e.g. purchase orders, invoices, salary and benefit forms, etc.) for the purpose of verifying computations and accuracy, assuring proper authorization and appropriate accounting coding, and maintaining audit trail.
* Posts/assembles/tabulates/compares financial and statistical data for the purpose of maintaining, updating and reconciling accounts, coding purchase orders and encumbering payments with correct budget information.
* Reconciles/audits differences for the purpose of balancing and adjusting accounts, processing documents and providing for a timely delivery of checks, billing invoices and other accounting related materials.
* Generates, compiles, prepares and distributes statistical and accounting reports, financial statements, and records for the purpose of providing information, obtaining verification of accuracy and/or establishing an audit trail.
* Records and maintains records on staffing patterns for district programs for the purpose of ensuring budget cash availability.
* Sets up and maintains District accounts and general ledger accounts for the purpose of ensuring comprehensive and accurate accounting of data and transactions for assigned accounts.
Other Functions
* Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities

Learning Development
- Level C Sufficient to read and write technical instruction, understand standardized methods, operate specialized and varied equipment, perform standard mathematical applications. Learning development involves the equivalent of some technical or vocational training beyond high school, often resulting in a certification.
Problem Solving - Level 2 Work situations require consideration and interpretation of circumstances or information to choose the most effective responses. Solutions may be somewhat technical, yet are relatively straightforward, obvious and well-defined once problems are understood. Responses come from the realm of prior learning and experiences.
Physical Requirements
Physical Skill - Level B Some learned physical skill is required. Certain coordinated finger, limb, or body movements must be performed in the course of regular work routines. These can usually be learned and competency developed on the job over a relatively short period of time.
Physical Effort - Level 1 Minimal physical exertion is required. Most job time is spent sitting with occasional walking. Occasional lifting, guiding, and carrying of lightweight materials or equipment.
