Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the Accountant I position within the Finance & Management Department. The Accountant I reports to the Accounting Supervisor and performs a wide variety of introductory‑level accounting functions, including the recording and reporting of financial transactions. This position is part of the Accountant job family and may be eligible for promotion to Accountant II and Senior Accountant as skills and experience with the Town develop and/or the employee obtains their Certified Public Accountant license.
The Accountant I assigned to the Accounts Receivable function plays a key role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of incoming payments, customer invoicing, and reconciliation of receivable accounts. This position requires strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of internal controls and cash‑handling policies, and the ability to collaborate across departments to resolve billing and payment issues. Though the position will focus on Accounts Receivable functions, other accounting duties may be assigned.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Compiles and generates journal entries and spreadsheets;
- Deposits and receives cash, checks, and other payments into the Town’s bank accounts; ensures timely and accurate processing in accordance with internal controls and cash‑handling policies.
- Records all deposit activity in the Town’s ERP system, verifies completeness, and reconciles recorded receipts to daily banking activity; investigates and resolves discrepancies.
- Prepares and issues customer invoices for leases, intergovernmental agreements, service charges, and other billable activity; ensures accuracy, proper documentation, and compliance with contract terms.
- Monitors outstanding receivables, researches variances, and coordinates with departments to resolve billing or payment issues.
- Reconciles assigned balance sheet accounts, including accounts receivable, deposits, clearing accounts, and other related asset and liability accounts; identifies discrepancies and implements corrective actions.

Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field
- A minimum of one year of experience in accounting, financial analysis, and reporting and reconciling general ledger accounts (governmental experience preferred)
- Any equivalent combination of training and job‑related experience which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work may substitute for the years of experience required
