Job Description:
Position Summary:
Responsible for secretarial and financial work of minimal difficulty requiring initiative and independent judgment; performs related work, as required or assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
Primary responsibility of this position is to complete public safety assessments (PSA)
* on all new-arrest jail bookings. Morning hours are required in order to submit the PSA to the court before the defendant’s initial appearance. Responsible for obtaining release condition orders from applicable Court and maintaining statistical data. Position may include occasional weekend work, but schedule is somewhat flexible. Additional duties may include but are not limited to: assisting officers with administrative caseload documentation, monitoring defendant restitution payments, assisting the pre-sentence report writer with initiating reports, and other duties as assigned as time allows.
Must be team oriented.
(PSA’s are a tool for the Court to consider when deciding on release conditions for the defendant. The PSA consists of a summary of the individuals’ criminal history, failures to appear, and severity of offense/s resulting in a recommendation to the Court.)
- May also compose and prepare correspondence and material of routine nature
- Act as clerical assistant in performing general office duties and handling customers
- Researches and compiles information and types reports
- Answers questions requiring knowledge of departmental rules and procedures
- Maintains confidential records and files
- Assists public in person and over the telephone
- Prepares and maintains files and records of Pre Trial cases
- Enters defendant data and case status into various adult databases
- Assists in case file closing and storage.
Minimum
Job Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate required and two (2) years of secretarial work experience preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of governmental operations with judicial emphasis or any combination of education, training or experience that demonstrates the potential to perform the duties of the position.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain appropriate insurance.
- Must not have any felony convictions and pass a background check.
Required Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
:
- Considerable knowledge of moderate office practices, procedures and office equipment; considerable knowledge of business English; spelling, punctuation and grammatical usage.
- Working skill in the use of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Excel and other software and office machines.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately
- Must be reliable, responsible and capable of working with minimum supervision
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public .
