Job Description
  • Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
  • Prefer Media Specialist endorsement.
  • Ensures and maintains an attractive, organized, stimulating, functional, healthy, safe, and nurturing, Library Media Center that encourages student responsibility and uses positive motivation, challenging instructional strategies, effective management techniques, and appropriate displays and exhibits, with proper attention to the visual, and acoustic environments.
  • Prepares, recommends, and operates a budget for the Library Media Center.
  • Establishes appropriate liaisons with state, county and local libraries such as but not limited to spelling bee, geography bee, Battle of the Books, etc.
  • Coordinates special events such as book fairs, reading incentive programs, etc.
  • Works effectively with adults assigned to the Library Media Center (e.g., teachers, student teachers, parents, and volunteers), establishing clear expectations for roles and responsibilities, exhibits an outstanding level of teacher support and collaboration and supervises media specialist aide.
  • Works collaboratively with classroom teachers to plan and deliver technology integrated lessons that support technology across the curriculum, both in the lab and in the classroom.
  • Selects and uses appropriate technology to support content‑specific learning outcomes.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of professional development in technology integration for school staff.
  • Coordinates relationship between school curriculum and technology skills.
  • Incorporates and maintains appropriate digital resources for students and teachers in lesson planning.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies and standards.
  • Assists in the development of the District Technology Plan.
  • Continues to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences.
  • Maintains an understanding of the school’s instructional program and the expectations of the Core Curriculum Content Standards and assessment requirements.
  • Support school program and initiatives as time is available
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must hold valid Arizona Teacher Certification with Media Specialist Endorsement as needed for position.
  • Must have SEI or equivalent endorsement on Certificate or able to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Valid IVP Finger Print Clearance Card.
  • No convictions for felonies or crimes against children.

The employee is regularly required to perform the following duties:

  • Frequent communication with parents, students, and staff including the exchange of accurate information.
  • Occasionally move about the inside of the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time either standing or sitting.
  • Often raising objects from a lower to higher position, higher to lower position, or horizontally weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to position body by bending body downward and forward by waist.
  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities including preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
