Position Summary

Position Length: 9 Month
Job Grade: 109
Hourly Rate: $17.36 and up, depending on experience
Hours Per Day: 7
Instructional paraprofessionals assigned to a school wide Title I campus become eligible for a supplemental financial incentive once required highly qualified status is verified by the Office of Federal Programs.

Mandatory Clearance

Must possess a Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card and a valid CPR/First Aid Certificate while employed.

Purpose Statement

Assist in the supervision and instruction of severely/moderately disabled special‑needs students under the direction of a certificated teacher; observe and document student progress; implement instructional plans; and provide necessary health care support.

Essential Functions
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials to ensure participation of all special‑education students.
  • Assist students requiring daily care (toileting, feeding, dressing, suctioning, tube feeding, lifting, positioning) to provide appropriate care for medically fragile and physically handicapped students.
  • Consult with teachers and therapists to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
  • Follow therapist instructions to carry over therapy routines and strategies.
  • Deliver academic instruction assigned by a teacher or therapist to individuals or small groups in alignment with IEP and district benchmarks.
  • Execute behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other handicapping conditions.
  • Instruct students in skills such as counting, colors, behavioral skills, daily living, and verbal skills to support remediation and enable success.
  • Maintain instructional materials and student files/records to ensure availability and reliability.
  • Monitor students during lunch, playground, classroom, and field trips to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Record, report, and collect data for the Direct Service Claiming (DSC) program to meet DSC requirements.
  • Perform record keeping and clerical functions to support teachers with necessary records and materials.
  • Respond to emergencies (e.g., injuries, fights) to resolve immediate safety concerns.
Other Functions
  • Assist other personnel as required to support completion of their work activities.
  • Attend meetings and in‑service presentations to acquire and/or convey information relevant to job functions.
Minimum Qualifications

Mental Requirements

  • Learning Development – Level B:
    Sufficient to read and write technical information, perform basic arithmetic, understand commonly used procedures, and operate equipment requiring some training. Equivalent to completion of a high school curriculum.
  • Problem Solving – Level 1:
    Work situations are routine; requires attention and concentration but limited discretion and planning.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical Skill – Level A:
    Basic level of learned physical skill required; normal mobility and handling of everyday objects sufficient.
  • Physical Effort – Level 2:
    Light physical effort; frequent standing, walking, lifting, guiding, and carrying light-weight materials.

Social Requirements

  • Human Relations Skill – Level B:
    Patience in communication, well-developed verbal skills, and ability to establish harmonious relationships.
  • Scope of Contacts – Level 1:
    Primary contacts are peers and immediate supervisor; occasional contact with individuals outside the organization.

Work Environment

  • Performance Environment – Level A:
    Changes in environment and work pressure are infrequent.
  • Physical Working Conditions – Level 3:
    Frequent exposure to moderately hazardous conditions.

Accountability

  • Level of Accountability – Level B:
    Responsible for producing journey-level work independently subject to supervisory review.
  • Organizational Impact – Level 1:
    Work results affect the immediate work section with little broader effect.
Experience, Education, and Certifications
  • Job‑related experience is desired.
  • High‑school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card while employed.
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate.
