Position Overview
Instructional Support Staff / Special Education Teaching Assistant (ASAP) – Flowing Wells Junior High School
Salary & CompensationSalary: $16.29 per hour – commensurate with experience.
Terms & Benefits- School Year
- 10 month position – 7.50 hours per day
- Major medical, hospitalization, dental, income protection, and term life coverage
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Additional training in child psychology, classroom management, special education needs, or related areas is desired.
- Must possess an Associate's degree or 60 semester hours of coursework documented on an official transcript from an accredited institution of higher education; or pass a formal state assessment such as the Master Teacher's Para Educator Learning Network (Parapro test paid for and administered by the district).
- General clerical experience desired.
- First aid and CPR training required.
- Proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Human relations skills.
- Understanding of students with special needs.
- Maintain discipline standards.
- Willingness to attend conferences, in-service workshops, and classes to upgrade and update skills.
- Clerical skills: typing, filing, data entry.
- Problem‑solving using common sense.
- Cooperative and courteous interaction with staff, students, parents, and community members.
- Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies.
- Handling confrontation and conflict without an emotional response.
- Time management skills.
- Assist in formulating individualized student programs.
- Support teachers in classroom planning, preparation, implementation, and management.
- Assist with documentation associated with individualized programs.
- Help each child develop social and work skills.
- Assist in implementation of individual student objectives and goals identified in program.
- May accompany teacher on home visits or homebound instruction.
- Participate in total school functions and activities.
- Assist in cafeteria and playground supervision.
Assist the teacher in implementing classroom academics, classroom management, and vocational needs. Assist in student growth and help students achieve the highest level of education possible. Emphasis is on the para‑professional aspects of the job, performed under close to moderate supervision.
