Paraprofessional
Purpose Statement:
The job of Paraprofessional is to support the instructional program within assigned classroom(s), working with individuals and/or small groups of students, and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.
Reports to:
Principal.
Essential Functions
- Adapt classroom activities, assignments, or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to reinforce classroom objectives.
- Administer classroom assignments, tests, homework, and make‑up work.
- Assist students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments, reading, writing, English lessons, spelling practice, and computer learning programs.
- Attend meetings and in‑service presentations.
- Communicate with teachers and/or parents about student progress.
- Implement instructional programs and lesson plans under teacher supervision.
- Maintain manual and electronic files and records.
- Monitor students in classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, etc., to ensure a safe and positive environment.
- Perform general clerical functions such as copying, filing, and data entry.
- Report observations and incidents related to specific students to appropriate personnel.
- Respond to emergency situations involving students.
- Support classroom teachers and other school personnel in implementing curriculum and teaching methods.
Other Functions
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Skills:
Proficiency in operating standard office equipment and related software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; applying curriculum and instructional techniques.
Knowledge:
Basic math (fractions, percent, ratios); reading and interpreting manuals; writing documents in prescribed formats; understanding multi‑step instructions. Knowledge of grammar, punctuation, child development stages, learning styles, and age‑appropriate activities.
Ability:
Scheduling activities; collating data; operating basic equipment; flexibility to work with diverse groups; problem‑solving; prioritizing work; working as part of a team under frequent interruptions.
Responsibility
Work under direct supervision, coordinate or guide others, and operate within a defined budget, contributing to the organization’s services.
Working Environment
Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, and fine finger dexterity. Typical work involves 25% sitting, 50% walking, and 25% standing with some exposure to injury and illness risks.
Experience
Job‑related experience required.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Testing
Pass the Academic Assessment of Knowledge and Instructional Skills Test or 60 college credits.
Continuing Educ./Training
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
