Job Summary

We are hiring a dynamic and dedicated College and Career Readiness Assistant to serve the Tohono O'odham Nation. The assistant will support Tribal K12 schools in fostering educational and career success by designing and facilitating college and career readiness programs, conducting research, providing administrative support, and leading or supporting community events and school programs. Travel to, or residence in, the respective communities is required.

Duties
  • Program Design and Facilitation:
    • Assist with the implementation of college and career readiness programs tailored to Tribal K12 students.
    • Create engaging workshops and activities that prepare students for post‑secondary education and/or career opportunities.
    • Implement programs that help students develop a growth mindset and build confidence.
    • Collaborate with the grant team, school staff, and community leaders to ensure culturally relevant and effective programs.
  • Tutoring and Mentoring:
    • Provide one‑on‑one and group tutoring sessions to support academic achievement.
    • Mentor students, offering guidance on academic, career, and personal development.
    • Track and assess student progress, adjusting support strategies as needed.
  • Cultural Program Leadership:
    • Lead or assist in developing and facilitating cultural programs that celebrate and preserve Tribal heritage and traditions.
    • Organize events and activities that promote cultural awareness and pride among students.
    • Engage community members to incorporate their knowledge and expertise into programming.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Build strong relationships with students, families, and tribal community members.
    • Participate in community events and meetings to stay responsive to community needs.
    • Act as an ambassador, promoting the organization’s mission and values.
  • Travel and On‑Site Work:
    • Travel to or reside in designated tribal communities to deliver programs and services.
    • Adapt to different community settings and maintain flexibility in scheduling and delivery.
Desired Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Education, Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Youth Development, or a related field.
  • Experience designing and facilitating educational programs or workshops.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with K12 students of various ages.
  • Demonstrated interest and cultural sensitivity when working with tribal communities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and adaptable approach.
  • Willingness to travel frequently or reside in tribal communities as required.
  • Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, or youth development.
  • Familiarity with tribal cultures, histories, and contemporary issues.
  • Skills in program evaluation and data collection.
Working Environment
  • Activities performed in Tribal communities and K12 schools; some may be in an environmentally controlled office setting with extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Frequent travel required.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to regularly change priorities to accomplish tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential functions.
