Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
- Instruct, within close proximity to the teacher, individual students or small groups of students to reinforce material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods and field trips
- Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about a student
- Implement, under direction, behavioral plans developed by a team of parent and school personnel for the purpose of assisting students in modifying behaviors that are in conflict with a positive academic and social environment
- Work with special needs students across all instructional settings, including special education classrooms, general education classrooms, recess, and lunch
- If circumstances require, restrain student to prevent injury to self or others utilizing CPI strategies (training provided)
- Assist students requiring support in addressing personal care/activities of daily living, including feeding, toileting, diapering, positioning/transferring, and safety monitoring, with appropriate training, to enable students to function in a school environment
- Assist students with various physical, emotional and educational needs adhering to guidelines of student I.E.P, with appropriate documentation for activities of daily living for reimbursement of services for Medicaid in the Public Schools
- Participate in meetings and in‑service training as required to share information and/or improve knowledge and skills beneficial to assisting in the classroom
- Safeguard and maintain confidentiality of student information stored and discussed, even after employment ends
- Perform all duties safely and prudently as directed by supervisors, including related duties as assigned
- High school diploma
- Current CPR and First Aid cards (no online classes)
- Capable of working with children one‑on‑one and in groups
- Ability to work with a variety of students with disabilities: emotional, autistic, mildly mentally disabled, and non‑verbal students
- Ability to relate to students and teachers positively, building trustful relationships with students
- Skills to perform job functions including instruction, computer use, basic academic matters, problem solving, and managing work assignments
- Pass background and reference checks as stipulated by district standards
The employee is regularly required to perform the following duties:
- Frequent communication with students and staff, exchanging accurate information
- Frequent interaction with students by bending downward and forward, requiring use of lower extremities and back muscles, bending legs at the knee to rest on knees or sitting on the floor to resume an upright position
- Move about on foot and remain standing while supervising students
- Raise or lower an object ranging from 25–50 lbs
- Exert force on an object so it moves away from or toward the force
- Ascend and descend small ladders with agility
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
TermsFull‑time position – 10 months, Monday – Friday, 32.5 hours per week
Salary classification on the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule
Performance evaluated by Site Administrator according to District Policy
Total paid holidays: 14
