Job DescriptionProvide instructional support under the supervision of the special education teacher in a special education environment or as required by an individualized education plan (IEP); and provide support to students with moderate to severe cognitive and/or physical needs in a specialized classroom.

- Job Title:
Classroom Instructional Health Aide Moderate to Severe Disabilities (ABLE) - Calendar: 1802PT or 1902PT (9 MONTH)
- Salary:
Grade 109 (Support Hourly) - Hours per Day: 6.5
- High school diploma or equivalent plus an Associate's Degree or 60 semester hours from an accredited university, or satisfactory results on an AZ state‑approved competency exam
- CPR/First Aid (certification provided)
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including a computer and related software
- Satisfactory criminal background check
- Meet the physical demands as described below
- Instruct, within proximity to the teacher, individual students or small groups of students to reinforce material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
- Translate, when required, (both oral and written) for parents, students, staff, and others
- Assist students requiring support in addressing personal care needs due to a severe medical condition and/or physical limitations (e.g., toileting, feeding, dressing, suctioning, tube feeding, and emergency rescue medication, etc.) for the purpose of allowing students to function in a school environment
- Implement, under direction, behavioral plans developed by a team consisting of parent and school personnel for the purpose of assisting students in modifying behaviors that conflict with a positive academic and social environment
- Assist students with various physical, emotional, and academic needs, adhering to the guidelines of the student's I.E.P
- Assist with emergency rescue medications if necessary
- Assist in the provision of services in a small group or one‑on‑one
- Administer immediate basic first aid and medical assistance for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or injured students
- Assist with assessments and data collection under the supervision of the certified teacher
- Operate and care for equipment used for instructional purposes
- Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods, and field trips
- Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about a student
- Participate in meetings and in‑service training as required for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving knowledge and skills beneficial to assisting in the classroom
- Maintain the confidentiality of protected student and staff member information even after no longer employed
- Be flexible and perform other duties relating to the general job function as assigned by the supervisor
- Accept responsibility for students’ well‑being and safety while they are in the employee’s care
- Be alert to and report the possibility of any substance use, child abuse, or dangerous situation based upon daily observation
- Assist in maintaining a quiet and orderly classroom environment
- Follow district policies as outlined
- Perform all duties safely and prudently as directed by supervisors
- Mobility and Movement:
Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, walk, and sit. The role involves repetitive finger and manual dexterity. - Sensory and Communication:
Requires the ability to speak, hear, and see (with correction) to perform essential job functions. - Physical Exertion:
- Occasionally:
Lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. - Frequently:
Lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds. - Constantly:
Lift or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

- Up to $600 available annually
- Starting hourly rate will be determined based on experience in a full time, paid job with like duties held in the previous 10 years. 1% per year starting in year 2, not to exceed the max hiring range of 5%
- Associate’s degree or higher in a like field may be considered for a 1% increase, combined with experience not to exceed 5% in addition to starting hourly rate for position.
