Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
  • Instruct, within close proximity to the teacher, individual students or small groups of students to reinforce material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
    • Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods and field trips.
    • Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about a student.
    • Implement, under direction, behavioral plans developed by a team consisting of parent and school personnel for the purpose of assisting students in modifying behaviors that are in conflict with a positive academic and social environment.
    • Work with special needs students across all instructional settings, including the special-education classrooms, general-education classrooms, recess and lunch.
    • If circumstances require, restrain a student to prevent injury using CPI strategies; training provided.
    • Assist students requiring support in addressing personal care/activities of daily living that may include feeding, toileting, diapering, positioning/transferring, and safety monitoring; all with appropriate training.
    • Assist students with various physical, emotional and educational needs, adhering to IEP guidelines with appropriate documentation for activities of daily living for Medicaid reimbursement in Public Schools.
    • Participate in meetings and in-service training as required for sharing information and improving knowledge and skills beneficial to assisting in the classroom.
    • Safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of student information even after employment ends.
    • Perform all duties safely and prudently as directed by supervisors, including related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma.
  • Current CPR and First Aid cards required (no online classes).
  • Capable of working with children one-on-one and in groups.
  • Ability to work with a variety of students with disabilities including emotional, autistic, mildly mentally disabled and non-verbal students.
  • Ability to relate positively to students and teachers, building trustful relationships.
  • Skills and ability to perform job functions including instruction, computer use, basic academic matters, problem solving, and managing work assignments.
  • Ability to pass background and reference checks as stipulated by District standards.
  • Valid IVP fingerprint clearance card.

The employee is regularly required to perform the following duties:

  • Frequent communication with students and staff, exchanging accurate information.
  • Frequent interaction with students by bending, grounding, and sitting on the floor as required.
  • Moving on foot and remaining upright while supervising students.
  • Raising or lowering an object ranging from 25-50 lbs.
  • Exerting force to move an object.
  • Ascending and descending small ladders with agility.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time position - 10 months, Monday-Friday, 32.5 hours per week.

SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Appropriate salary placement on the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by Site Administrator and according to District Policy.

TOTAL PAID HOLIDAYS: 14.
