A Tennessee Public Middle School Math Interventionist Teaching Assistant provides targeted instructional support to students who are performing below grade level in mathematics. Operating under the state's Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI²) framework, this non-exempt support staff member helps bridge foundational math gaps by leading small-group lessons, monitoring progress, and maintaining a structured learning environment.

Building Principal or Lead Interventionist Teacher - FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt (Hourly support staff)
- Lead Small Groups:
Deliver explicit, targeted math instruction to Tier 2 and Tier 3 students individually or in small groups. - Reinforce
Skills:
Focus on foundational middle school concepts like ratios, proportional relationships, fractions, and introductory algebraic thinking. - Implement Curriculum:
Utilize evidence-based math interventions and teacher-designed lesson plans. - Engage Students:
Adapt delivery styles to meet diverse learning needs and foster confidence in mathematics.
- Track Growth:
Assist in collecting daily or weekly progress monitoring data to log student advancement. - Administer Probes:
Help administer benchmark assessments and diagnostic tool check-ins under the supervisor's direction. - Organize Records:
Maintain detailed, organized logs of student attendance and behavioural responses to the intervention.
- Manage Behavior:
Maintain school behavioral expectations to preserve a focused, productive learning atmosphere. - Prepare Materials:
Organize instructional kits, math manipulatives, worksheets, and digital educational tools before each group. - Supervise Students:
Monitor student transitions and occasionally assist with standard school duties like lunch or bus oversight.
- Partner with Teachers:
Meet regularly with certified math teachers and RTI² coordinators to review data and adjust groups. - Maintain Confidentiality:
Secure all student records in strict compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Education:
High School Diploma/GED AND a passing score on the Para Pro Assessment, OR an Associate degree - Experience:
Experience working with middle-school-aged children or tutoring mathematics is highly preferred. - Skills:
Strong understanding of basic mathematics, clear communication skills, and comfort using instructional technology.
- Regularly stand, walk, or sit while working directly with student groups.
- Light physical effort required to lift or move classroom supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
