Job Description

The Quantity Surveyor assists and supports the Project Controls functions of planning, scheduling, cost management, progress and performance analysis and reporting, as required, to meet the project scope and job requirements. It focuses on construction quantity verification and reporting. The position relies primarily on established policies, procedures, and applicable work practices to make decisions as they apply to the job duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Confirm and verify quantities via spot check for progress and invoice verification of payments to construction contractors.
  • Coordinate and schedule measurement activities with construction management.
  • Prepare and maintain complete and accurate field measurement notes, including numerical calculations, basis of calculations and assumptions/background.
  • Support the contract administrator when required.
  • Review construction contractors’ proposals for contract changes for accuracy and quantity basis and validate against the current contract with the contract administrator.
  • Assist in evaluation of change requests: interface with the contract administrator for the initiation and development of contract change documents.
  • Where required, support discussions and negotiations with contractors on (counter) estimates and contract change requests.
  • Assist in providing input to contract cost forecast developments as required.
  • Liaise with Engineering, Contracts, Construction and FCX management on evaluation of potential changes, risks assessment, and mitigation.
  • Liaise with other Project Controls staff for aspects of (potential) changes.
  • Assist in compiling historical data / key quantity analysis.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Basic

Job Requirements
  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and six (6) years of work‑related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to ten (10) years if non‑degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
  • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time‑conscious and time‑effective manner.
