DescriptionNorthrop Grumman Military Internship Program (NG‑MIP) offers transitioning service members an individualized internship during their last 6 months of service for up to 180 days. The program provides hands‑on experience with Northrop Grumman’s space-sector teams and the potential for a full‑time career upon successful completion.
Responsibilities for the InternshipInterns will be on‑site at their host company and perform a variety of tasks in line with an entry to mid‑level engineering role. They will work 40 hours per week and support activities such as:
- Assisting engineers with mechanical and electrical design, fabrication, testing, modification, and assembly of spacecraft and support equipment.
- Fabricating, assembling, and installing mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic components or assemblies.
- Setting up and conducting prototype unit and subsystem tests.
- Analyzing test data, identifying issues, and recommending modifications.
- Supporting critical spaceflight hardware integration with high attention to detail and safety.
- Maintaining clean‑room protocols and hazardous material handling procedures.
- Working flexible schedules, including off‑shifts, weekends, overtime, and up to 25% domestic travel for launch campaigns.
- Operating independently, troubleshooting, and resolving technical challenges.
- Served at least 180 days on active duty.
- Within 12 months of separation or retirement.
- Will receive an honorable discharge.
- Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS.
- Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months.
- Received unit commander written authorization and approval to participate in the program prior to the internship start.

The selected candidate will serve as an Engineering Technician on the Integration & Test (I&T) of Northrop Grumman spacecraft and supporting equipment.
Core Responsibilities- Draft and interpret detailed drawings for fabrication.
- Fabricate, assemble, and install mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic components or assemblies.
- Set up and conduct prototype unit and subsystem tests under operational conditions.
- Analyze test data, identify issues, and recommend modifications.
- Support critical space flight hardware integration with high attention to detail and safety.
- Maintain clean‑room protocols, hazardous material handling, and operational procedures.
- Work flexible schedules, including off‑shifts, weekends, overtime, and travel for launch campaigns (up to 25% domestic travel).
- Leverage strong organizational skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues independently.
Requires flexibility to work alternate shifts (2nd and 3rd shift) and potentially weekend shifts depending on test event schedules. Shift differential pay and overtime are available.
TravelUp to 25% domestic travel may be required.
Basic Qualifications- High School Diploma and 2 years of related experience in electrical, mechanical or equivalent fields.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD government clearance, including active and current DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI or SAP/SAR access during the time of application.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio).
- Hands‑on experience with aerospace or related equipment, harness build and installation methods.
- Knowledge of electrical measurements (AC/DC, resistance), voltage circuitry, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Understanding of clean‑room operations and spacecraft handling protocols.
- Ability to lift and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including 2nd and 3rd shift schedules, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- A&P License.
- Flight hardware integration and spacecraft processing experience.
- Certifications in flight wire harnessing, flight soldering, and epoxy bonding.
- Familiarity with EGSE processes, test procedures, and troubleshooting support equipment.
