Overview
The Payroll Analyst 2:
Accounting serves a lead role on the collaborative team responsible for the administration of the College's complex, multi-state, biweekly payroll. The Analyst 2:
Accounting will be expected to:
- Manage and perform payroll-related functions including payroll processing, reconciliation, reporting, and compliance including filing multi-state payroll taxes
- Monitor and maintain payroll information systems and actively recommend and participate in improvement efforts
- Lead effective customer service and training efforts with internal and external stakeholders regarding payroll systems, processes and other complex issues
- Perform complex financial analysis and reporting
- Manage and monitor the processing and disbursement of the College's complex bi-weekly payroll for approximately 2,500 employees each pay period
- Ensure the maintenance of a high level of efficient and consistent payroll services across the College’s campuses and district offices, remote worksites, and off-site workforce
- Ensure compliance with statutory demands and court orders including wage garnishments, child support, and other legally binding judgements
- Monitor, analyze, and reconcile internal and external payroll information; investigate and resolve discrepancies
- File federal and multi-state payroll taxes including quarterly and year-end tax reporting, and reconciliation activities to appropriate taxing agencies
- Prepare complex summary reports and make recommendations for administrative review;
Prepare quarterly and annual financial reports to funding agencies - Coordinate activities and communicate with other departments on a wide variety of issues. Complete year-end and year-start processes with multiple areas
- Participate in the development and implementation of changes in departmental policies, procedures, and processes to ensure proper control, improvement, and efficiency of the College's payroll function
- Perform special projects; prepare and deliver oral and written reports
- Respond to questions from regulatory agencies including the IRS, Social Security Administration, State of Arizona, Bank of America, and the Department of Economic Security
- Participate in internal and external audits including preparing responses to inquiries from the Arizona Auditor's General Office
- Participates as an active and contributing member of a team to achieve goals
- Maintain effective partnerships with College staff and administrators to resolve common problems and develop approaches to ensure efficient coordination of services
- Participate in professional development to ensure maintenance of required qualifications and current knowledge in the field
