Position Summary

We are looking for a Senior Acute Pharmacy Technician to join the Banner Gateway Medical Center inpatient team. This is a full‑time overnight position with a 7‑on‑7‑off rotation, 9 PM – 7 AM. Training will be 4‑6 weeks on mornings (6 AM – 2:30 PM) with one week of evening rotation (1 PM – 10:30 PM) depending on skill level. The role will work under the supervision of a pharmacist and perform routine duties in packaging, distribution, non‑sterile compounding, and record‑keeping of pharmaceutical supplies.

Responsibilities include acting as a liaison between the customer and the pharmacist, investigating and resolving missing medication requests, and ensuring compliance with USP / standards.

Benefits: Hire on incentive up to $2,500. Flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential when applicable.

Core Functions
  • Identify medications and other items for reorder to maintain continuous inventory, receive and restock medications from wholesalers, and manage unused or short‑dated items.
  • Manage users within the automated dispensing technology database, investigate discrepancies, and troubleshoot malfunctions.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal and customer‑service skills, responding to standard requests from internal and external customers.
  • Use automated dispensing technology or requisition to restock medications in nursing and ancillary areas, following proper verification procedures.
  • Compound non‑sterile medication products, following USP compounding guidelines, calibrating equipment, and documenting all activities.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with all policies and performing quality control activities, including temperature documentation.
  • Apply correct sterile compounding techniques for intravenous compounds and hazardous agents, adhering to USP / and institutional policies.
  • Handle narcotic medications in compliance with federal and legal requirements and controlled‑substance procedures.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Pharmacy Technician licensure and active certification or Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.
    • Minimum of two years pharmacy technician experience.
    • Ability to perform moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand‑held calculator.
    • Strong customer service focus, exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, prioritization, and problem‑solving abilities.
    • Knowledge of medication management information system software, Microsoft applications, and automated dispensing systems.
    • AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card required at hire for incumbents in Arizona.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Certification Program.
    • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
