Position Summary
This position performs diagnostic cardiac sonography examinations and cardiology procedures to provide data for the diagnosis of disease and injuries in accordance with all applicable standards, regulations, and licensing requirements. The role demonstrates an expanding knowledge base of complex congenital heart disease for specific patient populations and applies in‑depth clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills to solve problems.
Position Duties- Performs diagnostic cardiac sonography examinations on patients with congenital and acquired heart disease for interpretation by cardiologists. Determines proper technique and positioning to ensure optimal results in accordance with all applicable standards, protocols, and procedures. Performs or assists with transesophageal, transthoracic, and advanced techniques, including fetal and stress cardiac sonography, as required and per training and expertise.
- Documents preliminary reports, creating detailed impressions that include positive and negative anatomic findings and measurements. Reports are clear, concise, grammatically correct, and properly punctuated.
- Maintains professional and technical competency by participating in career development, leadership activities, and workflow improvement initiatives. Serves as preceptor to students, fellows, and orientees and pursues ongoing education to sustain credentialing requirements.
- Maintains professional environment and equipment: cleans, restocks, and turns over exam rooms and equipment, logs data, identifies and troubleshoots malfunctions, reports service needs, and submits maintenance tickets.
- Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.
- Graduation from a CAAHEP or ACCSC accredited cardiac sonography program or equivalent, or 10 years experience in cardiac ultrasound.
- 3 years full‑time pediatric cardiac sonography (required).
- Endorsement from clinical leadership and medical director(s) (required).
- Shares on‑call duties with peers after hours, weekends, and holidays, works independently in satellite locations (required).
- Flexible with work assignments to balance staff workload (required).
- Maintains a positive professional demeanor in stressful situations and represents Phoenix Children’s positively (required).
- Creates relationships that inspire trust and loyalty (required).
- Influences a safe and respectful work environment and communicates professionally (required).
- Balances multiple priorities and workload effectively (required).
- ARDMS RDCS‑Pediatric (RDCS PE) or CCI Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) (required).
- Current BLS certification for healthcare providers from the American Heart Association (required).
- Membership to professional societies such as ASE, SDMS, AIUM (preferred).
- Amer Reg Diag Med Sonography OR Reg Congenital Cardiac Sonogra OR Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer OR Reg Diag Cardiac Sonogrp Peds – required.
