Position: Welder I

Performs certified quality welds with ferrous and non‑ferrous metals. Reads blueprints and sketches to perform welds and layouts. Utilizes horizontal band saws, chop saws, track torches, plasma and free‑hand cutting. Material thickness will vary from 16 gauge to 8" thick. When and where required preheats and post heats material. Fabricates jigs when required to mass‑produce products. Welds deposits performed using Arc, Mig and Tig welding procedures.

Operates drill press and MAG drills. Fabricates items from shop drawing sketches and verbal instructions from chief or customer. Removes material when needed using air arc and oxy/fuel washing. Performs other duties as required to complete the assigned mission. This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Qualifications

Pay Rate: $32.88

Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience Requirements
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have an American Welding Society (D1‑1) Certification in all positions using mild steel, one inch material 7018.
  • Must have two years’ experience at journeyman level.
Job Skills Requirements
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints. Metric and standard measurements.
  • Must understand the effect of hardening, annealing, and stress relieving on metals and metal alloys in order to choose the proper materials.
  • Must be able to cut utilizing horizontal band saws, chop saws, track torches, plasma and free‑hand cutting.
Physical Requirements
  • Must pass a pre‑employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.
  • Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120° Fahrenheit.
  • Must meet the physical requirements necessary to perform operations outlined, performed, and stated in the SOPs for Welding.
  • Must be capable of lifting 100 lbs unassisted.
  • Must be capable of frequent squatting, crouching and stooping.

  • Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed, sometimes on short notice, to support test missions.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, without special restrictions.
  • Must have dependable transportation and a dependable means of communication.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
  • Four years’ experience at journeyman level.
  • Familiar with the operations and uses of a press break.
  • Experience designing and engineering parts using Auto CAD.
  • Experience programming CNC plasma cutter to cut parts.
  • The ability to fabricate parts from verbal instructions.
Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
  • Must be a current TRAX employee or affiliate subcontractor for internal postings.
