Operations Manager, Production Manager
The Operations Manager (Focus Factory Manager) is responsible for profit and loss of its business while leading a team of cross-functional employees to meet or exceed the objectives of the business. Functions reporting to the Operations Manager include production (mechanical assembly, team leaders, production control), production supervisors, manufacturing engineers, manufacturing quality engineers and oversight to planning. The Operations Manager is expected to use data and process rigor to identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement and champion continuous improvement and the implementation of lean principles to improve the overall safety, quality, delivery, and cost of Pacific Scientific EMC operation.
This person is expected to build and lead a motivated and cohesive team by demonstrating strong communication skills, transparency, and a passion for success while ensuring the growth and development of its individual members and business.
- Lead production team(s), three (3) + complex business units to meet or exceed Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) pertaining to Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Productivity and root cause/countermeasure as needed.
- Participates and/or leads events using Ralliant Business Systems (RBS), tools to drive continuous process improvements in Safety, Quality, On-Time Delivery, cost savings inventory reduction, EAC (estimate to complete) adherence and growth.
- Review backlog, plan production (materials, machines, manpower) and evaluate overall capacity to determine if other countermeasures will be required to meet customer needs.
- Manage cross-training to develop a flexible team capable of driving labor efficiencies and productivity.
- Continually evaluate resource utilization (machines, assembly/equipment, and manpower) and make recommendations to align capabilities and capacity with business needs.
- Ensure all machines, tools, and equipment are properly maintained to produce quality products efficiently and effectively with minimal down-time.
- Manage P&L and implement cost controls as needed.
- Works collaboratively with other functions including EHS, HR, Engineering, New Product Development, Business Development, Supply Chain and Program Management.
- Accountable for providing accurate shipment forecasts and achieving forecast.
- Maintain minimal inventory levels.
- Formulate a 5-year strategic plan and drive growth.
- Participate in talent review and succession planning.
- Ownership of business unit(s)' revenue, cost including productivity, cost of quality, program performance, inventory management, customer scorecard performance and bid support.
- Leads the assigned business unit(s)' processes (purchase to shipment) through daily management which include, but are not limited to, bid planning, demand planning, production planning, production control, manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, product test, design engineering support, and inspection.
- Instills and maintains a positive can-do team atmosphere within the business unit(s). Support engagement, inclusivity, and diversity initiatives to continue building a high-performance work culture.
- Ensure effective Daily Management and Standard Work.
- Coach, mentor, and develop/collaborate performance and development goals for direct reports.
- In conjunction with cross functional resources, develop optimum capacity, efficiency, and profitability through the facilities and equipment improvements.
- Champion company initiatives including safety, quality and engagement.
- Strong knowledge of production processes in a lean manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in Ralliant Business Systems (RBS) or other continuous improvement system with demonstrated results using Lean and/or Six Sigma principles.
- Strong working knowledge of ERP systems and reporting tools.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and effective facilitation skills.
- Previous Ordnance experience is a plus.
- Comfortable prioritizing in a fast-paced environment.
- General knowledge of assembly and machining principles.
- Strong problem solver and creative thinker.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- BS Degree in Business, Management or Engineering.
- 12+ years of experience in manufacturing/operations with previous management responsibility required.
