How you'll contribute
An Assessment Director who excels in this role:
* Ensures comprehensive assessments and high-quality therapeutic care for patients seeking treatment for substance abuse, dual diagnosis, psychiatric disorders, or emotional disorders.
* Oversees the assessment of walk-in patients and phone callers and completes initial psychiatric assessments for patients seeking treatment.
* Supervises and participates in answering inquiry calls regarding treatment and facility services, presents treatment options, documents calls, and schedules appointments for prospective patients.
* Creates, revises, and implements schedules for the Assessment and Referral Office.
* Assesses the needs of walk-in patients and phone callers to ensure referrals to the most appropriate services or resources.
* Completes initial psychiatric assessments and presents symptoms to psychiatrists to determine the most appropriate level of care.
* Explains treatment plans to patients and families to help reduce fear and other barriers to acceptance and continuation of treatment.
* Refers and triages patients to alternative treatment resources when appropriate.
* Coaches and develops team members' skills in assessment, patient and family interaction, and therapeutic care delivery.
* Serves as a member of the hospital leadership team.
* Supervises reception as needed.
* Directs and conducts screenings of potential patients for program admission and initiates the integrated assessment process.
* Assists administration, physicians, and clinical staff in evaluating pending admissions to determine the appropriateness of the level of care and communicates pending admissions to the nursing department.
* Applies approved admission criteria and makes recommendations regarding the least restrictive appropriate level of care; initiates the episode-of-care plan upon admission to all levels of care.
* Functions as a liaison among physicians, families, transportation services, and other mental health facilities to coordinate admission procedures.
* Ensures all vital patient assessment information is accurately communicated to attending physicians and that complete patient histories are obtained to support accurate level-of-care determinations.
* Communicates with external reviewers and referral sources, conducts required external reviews, and maintains documentation of all interactions in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
* Ensures third-party payors are notified of, or involved in, decisions regarding appropriate transitions between levels of care.
* Prepares morning meeting reports to communicate census information, referral activity, and pending admissions.
* Maintains strong relationships with current referral sources to ensure satisfaction and ongoing partnerships.
* Holds team members accountable to high performance standards while supporting ongoing professional development.
* Maintains knowledge of CMS, JCAHO, EMTALA, and state regulations and standards of performance, and regularly audits departmental functions to ensure compliance.
What we're looking for
Education:
* Master's degree in social work, counseling or related field required or licensed degree per state of practice guideline. RN licensure may be used per state of practice guidelines.
Licenses/Certifications:
* Current unencumbered clinical social work, counselor or RN license or per state requirements.
* Valid driver's license and a favorable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), along with proof of insurance when using own auto.
* CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days.
Skills & Experience:
* Previous management experience in a psychiatric health care facility, with direct experience working in assessment for chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and geriatric patients.
