This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and the standards of professional nursing practice. The RN is responsible for the quality of nursing services provided by themselves or others under their direction, utilizing specialized knowledge and judgment to deliver care appropriate to each patient’s physical and developmental age.
Core Functions- Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, and cultural needs, and plan discharge accordingly.
- Review patient history, physical findings, diagnostic and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physician(s) and other appropriate caregivers.
- Develop and revise care plans, including goals that are realistic and measurable, in collaboration with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary health team.
- Implement the care plan through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the healthcare team.
- Ensure continuity of care by communicating accurately and completely with other caregivers regarding patient status.
- Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching, adjusting the plan of care as needed.
- Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely, legible manner consistent with policy.
- Apply best evidence available, participate in research activities, and contribute to unit or facility shared leadership.
- Support growth of others via precepting and mentoring, where appropriate.
- Participate in initiatives to improve national nursing quality indicators and outcomes; join professional organizations as required.
- In some roles, supervise staff and departmental workflow.
- Interact with all levels of staff, patients, families, external contacts, and community providers to exchange or clarify information and provide spiritual support when indicated.
Must possess a current, valid RN license in the state of practice, a temporary or interim RN license, or a compact RN licensure applicable to the state. BLS certification is required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on the area of practice.
Experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months is required. For registry and travel positions, a minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting or as a RN in a physician practice is required.
Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree preferred. Professional certification preferred.
