American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ED Holds/Telemetry position requiring a strong cardiac telemetry background and the ability to titrate cardiac drips in an acute care, Level III trauma setting.
Requirements- Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of strong cardiac telemetry experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to titrate cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Heparin, Amiodarone)
- Cerner EMR experience beneficial
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Candidate must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license)
- Acute care hospital setting, ED Holds/Telemetry unit
- Level III trauma center
- Patients are ED holds waiting for inpatient bed placement, primarily MS/Tele population
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Telemetry monitoring required — nurses must independently read and interpret cardiac strips (no monitor tech on unit)
- Common titratable drips include Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone
- RNs are required to titrate drips per physician orders and parameters
- No ventilator management required;
BiPAP/CPAP not listed as unit equipment - PCTs are available on the unit
- ED charge nurse provides unit oversight
- Charting via Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
- Must work 2 of 4 major holidays, rotating with permanent staff
- First to float; may float to med/surg/tele/overflow units and sister ED campuses as needed
- Primary responsibilities include caring for ED patients awaiting inpatient bed placement, with a focus on telemetry and medical patients
- May assist with ED patient tasks such as vital signs, IV starts, and medication administration, but will not serve as the primary RN for an ED patient assignment
- Orientation consists of 2 shifts on the Med/Surg/Tele unit at the primary campus
- Candidates must pass a dysrhythmia exam (via Relias) prior to start — 2 attempts allowed; failure results in a 6-month DNU status for this health system's AZ region
- A pass/fail simulation lab on sterile technique (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is conducted on day one of orientation; failure results in a 6-month DNU status
- Navy scrubs required
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
