Banner Gateway MD Anderson Cancer Center offers the most experienced and advanced Infusion Center, providing an ever-increasing list of high-quality adult services. In this role, you will support Outpatient Infusion services as a Lab/OTC Registered Nurse, splitting time between accessing ports/piccs and drawing labs in the BMDACC lab.

You’ll collaborate closely with infusion nurses and oncology providers to ensure timely symptom management, adherence to clinical protocols, and patient education. Ideal candidates have a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced outpatient environment.

Schedule
:
Monday - Friday, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts between 6:30 AM–5 PM, with a holiday rotation required.

Core Responsibilities
  • Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs. Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and assures completion within appropriate timeframe. Reviews available information from other health care team members. Reviews diagnostics and laboratory data and reports abnormal results to the physician(s) and other appropriate caregivers. Completes assessment and reassessments per policy.

  • Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, using assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team. Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and the medical plan of care. Goals for patient are realistic, measurable, and developed with the patient/family. Considers the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs of the patient.

    Plans care in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members. Reviews and revises the plan of care to reflect changing patient needs.

  • Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health care team. Provides care per physician orders and the nursing plan, complying with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements. Delegates appropriately and provides nursing supervision to other licensed nurses and personnel. Promotes continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.

  • Evaluates the patient’s and family’s response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed. Evaluates patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members. Evaluates patient response and effectiveness of patient teaching.

  • Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely, and in accordance with policy, reflecting objective/subjective data, nursing interventions, and patient’s response. Notes physician orders accurately and timely.

  • Provides care based on the best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Participates in unit or facility shared leadership. Interacts and participates in the education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors. Promotes and supports growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.

  • Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes via timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care. Actively participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes. Such activities may include participation in professional organizations.

  • In some roles, this position may supervise staff and workflow of the department.

  • Interacts with all levels of staff across multiple departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts—including employees of other health care institutions, community providers, and agencies—regarding patient health care.
