This position requires weekend work based on the needs of the work group.
Job DescriptionThe primary function of this position is to provide leadership and ensure assigned staff are trained and capable of performing in alignment with industry best practices and organizational standards. Responsibilities include the maintenance of grounds, parks, athletic fields, irrigation systems, turf, trees, shrubs, playgrounds, sport courts, and associated facilities, as well as the tools and equipment necessary to perform these duties.
Practical experience maintaining commercial irrigation systems for sports fields, parks, and golf courses—particularly with Cloud-based irrigation controller systems such as Baseline/Hydropoint—is desirable. Candidates should be safety-conscious, manage time wisely, and possess interpersonal and communication skills needed to build positive relationships with customers and co‑workers and work effectively independently and as part of a team.
- Interview, hire, train, supervise, guide, evaluate, and review full-time division staff; process and approve employee payroll for both full-time and contract employees.
- Oversee Ground Maintenance Workers I & II and Custodians, maintenance of timecards and approvals, performance reviews, and corrective measures for subordinates.
- Train and oversee maintenance staff using industry techniques and standards, including safe equipment practices and general cleaning practices.
- Promote shared responsibility, teamwork, and continuous improvement by assisting the supervisor in planning, organizing, observing, and directing various ground maintenance activities.
- Prepare and maintain inspection reports, documents, and related performance records; maintain data in computerized systems; submit, close, and assign work orders.
- Program, operate, and repair stand‑alone and cloud‑based automated irrigation control systems; participate in Water Conservation initiatives and irrigation efficiency goals.
- Prepare athletic fields and courts for sports activities; measure, lay out, and paint field lines, mound, home plate, pitching rubber, batter’s box, base anchor housings, infield skin work, and bullpens.
- Perform specialized installation, maintenance, and repair work related to the assigned area of responsibility.
- Oversee staff and contractor work in progress and upon completion for compliance with standards and plans.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 5 years of experience in landscape maintenance; basic landscape design, tree and shrub planting techniques, herbicide, pesticide and fertilizer application, commercial irrigation system installation and repair, and athletic field maintenance.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities to perform the work.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in staff supervision, facility and public safety collaboration with internal and external contractor oversight, budget oversight, work order system utilization, irrigation system maintenance, athletic facility/field maintenance, turf care and maintenance, arbor care and maintenance, landscape care and maintenance, sport court and playground upkeep, special event and tournament support, equipment operation and care, and manual labor.
Licensing/Certifications(Four within 12 months)
