, a 24-hour emergency and specialty animal hospital, as a Veterinary Blood Bank Technician supporting our in-house blood banking and transfusion program. In this specialized veterinary technician role, you will help provide safe, high-quality blood products for canine and feline patients while working alongside emergency veterinarians, criticalists, surgeons, and internal medicine specialists.
This is an opportunity to build expertise in veterinary blood banking, transfusion medicine, donor care, laboratory procedures, and emergency and specialty veterinary medicine while playing a direct role in life‑saving patient care.

- Screen canine and feline patients for blood donor eligibility based on health, medical history, and temperament.
- Safely handle, restrain, and comfort donor animals throughout the donation process using low-stress handling techniques.
- Recognize signs of fear, anxiety, and stress and respond appropriately.
- Monitor donor patients before, during, and after blood collection for adverse reactions or changes in condition.
- Provide appropriate pre- and post-donation care to support donor health and welfare.
- Maintain accurate medical records for every donor visit.
- Perform safe and sterile venipuncture and blood collection from approved canine and feline donors.
- Process whole blood into components such as packed red blood cells and plasma using centrifugation and specialized blood banking equipment.
- Perform blood typing, cross matching, hematocrit testing, and other compatibility testing
. - Follow established transfusion medicine, blood collection, and quality assurance protocols.
- Accurately document donor information, collection details, blood products, and recipient data.
- Help recruit, screen, and schedule canine and feline blood donors.
- Communicate with donor families regarding eligibility, appointments, the donation process, and donor care.
- Help organize and participate in blood drives and donor recognition events
, including events that may occur outside traditional business hours. - Maintain accurate donor records, vaccination histories, laboratory screening results, and donation history.
- Follow up with donor families when their pet’s blood product is used, helping create a meaningful donor experience.
- Maintain accurate inventory of available blood products and monitor expiration dates and storage requirements.
- Ensure blood products are properly stored, labeled, handled, and transported
