Test Range Operations
Applies working mechanical and technical knowledge to perform all phases of technical test data observation and recording in support of engineering projects. Requires use of standardized, but varied, military technical manuals. Collects field data consisting of maintaining an accurate and detailed chronological record of all test item operations and maintenance related data. From the field data obtained, prepares standardized Test Incident Reports (TIRs).
Also prepares and maintains test mileage, test hours, and other summaries to track test progress. Works first, second, and third shifts as necessary to meet specific test needs. Mentors and trains other personnel to perform data collection duties. May direct a field team to provide data collection support to a specific program or programs. Reviews Equipment Component Logs (ECL) daily to ensure all reportable events are properly identified and contain all necessary information to write a detailed Test Incident Report (TIR).
Reviews TIRs for grammatical and spelling errors, accuracy, detailed chronological data accuracy, parts information, and scoring data prior to submitting through the review process. Tracks TIR progress from inception, through the review process, and to posting in the Repository of Information for Test and Analysis (RITA) and VISION Digital Library System (VDLS). Performs periodic field visits to test sites and maintenance shops to observe personnel and provide hands on training throughout the test program.
Performs other duties as required to complete assigned mission. This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Pay Rate: $33.48
Education / Licenses / Certifications / Experience Requirements- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have at least two (2) years of experience as a Quality Assurance Tech I, with at least six (6) years of experience in Data Collection/Quality Assurance combined.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Must be able to perform Quality Assurance functions with little or no supervision.
- Must have the ability to provide guidance and direction to assigned programs with minimal supervision.
- Must have the ability to direct additional QA's on a large test with minimal supervision.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests.
- Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.
- Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Must be capable of frequent squatting, crouching, kneeling, standing, climbing, and stooping.
- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds.
- Must be able to enter, exit, and climb on and under test vehicles of various configurations, some in excess of 10 feet off the ground.
- Must meet the physical requirements necessary to perform operations outlined, performed, and stated in the SOPs for Data Acquisition Section.
- Must be able speak, write, read, and understand English.
- Must have a well-mannered customer service attitude.

- Possess a 2 or 4-year college degree in English, Journalism, Mechanical Arts or related field.
- Post high school English credits.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
