Position Overview
Personal Bankers at UMB build strong customer relationships and recommend and sell a range of products and services. You will receive extensive training in UMB’s products, sales processes, and financial solutions, and will work closely with branch leaders and mentors.
Responsibilities- Ask personalized questions to transform every customer interaction into an opportunity to learn more about their financial goals and connect them to solutions that meet those needs.
- Create and manage a successful loan pipeline, focusing on prospecting and cross‑selling home equity loans, lines of credit, unsecured personal loans, auto loans, and mortgage referrals.
- Generate sales opportunities and grow UMB’s customer base by applying product knowledge to source consumer lending opportunities through networking, customer conversations, business development, and proactive sourcing.
- Process transactions, manage a cash drawer, and complete bank documentation in accordance with industry and legal standards.
- Challenge daily performance metrics to elevate personal goals while balancing competing priorities and delivering excellent customer experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years of retail banking sales experience or other relevant experience.
- Reliable transportation and ability to work branch hours, including weekends and some evenings.
- Ability to obtain an NMLS registration within 90 days.
- Quick and accurate learning of products, services, and procedures.
- Basic math skills and ability to problem‑solve within established risk parameters and tolerances.
- Strong interpersonal skills: ability to build personal connections, engage and educate customers, ask open‑ended questions, and listen to establish trust and lasting relationships.
- Strong business‑development capabilities to proactively grow a personal book of business through campaign offers, prospecting leads, service‑to‑sales conversations, and leveraging centers of influence for referrals.
- High‑energy, sales‑driven mindset with a willingness to receive coaching and feedback to improve sales outcomes.
- Excellent communication ability, a positive image projection, problem‑solving skills, and a detail‑oriented approach to document completion and feature explanation.
- Enjoyment of coaching others and serving as a sales mentor.
- College degree or military equivalent (strongly preferred).
- Bilingual abilities.
The anticipated compensation for this opening is $21–$22 per hour. Salary ranges are as follows:
- California, Washington DC, New Jersey, and New York: $41,060 – $59,760 annually.
- Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin: $37,490 – $54,700 annually.
- All other states: $33,920 – $49,650 annually.
