Field Service Technician is an essential part of customer service who perform functions necessary for the operations and maintenance to deliver drinking water that meets all regulated standards. This job performs semi-skilled field work such as locating water lines, reading and replacing water meters, responding to work orders and performing maintenance and repair of water facilities, hydrants, and other equipment.
Position Accountabilities- Available for emergency work as needed
- Maintain an acceptable driving record
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation of the water delivery system
- Operate and maintain water delivery equipment
- Perform building and site maintenance (plumbing, electrical, and carpentry)
- Perform tasks associated with road maintenance
- Read meters accurately and efficiently. The failure to obtain an accurate read for any meter may result in immediate dismissal
- Display professionalism when working with customers and other stakeholders
- May include other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Experience (Technical): Engaged in physical labor functions. Trained in the safe operation of power tools.

Required Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesThe highest duties of this position are accuracy, completeness, and good communication. Skills include reading with comprehension, writing legibly, the use of standard keyboard and input on a computer, following written and oral directions, performing manual labor, and repairing, maintaining, and using operating equipment. Other required skills include knowledge of general construction, safety, retention, problem-solving, decision-making, and math.
Work Environment andPhysical Requirements
As a team member, be called upon to work during on and off hours to perform strenuous physical duties. Most work is completed in an outside environment in all weather and environmental hazards. Subject to tight spaces, dangerous heights, loud noise, and vibration. Close to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, backhoes, electrical current, and exposure to chemicals.
Must be physically fit to perform work that requires more than one hour: sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting, and digging. Exert more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, more than 50 pounds of force frequently, and more than 20 pounds regularly. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus;
require the use of hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, and equipment and to operate a computer and keyboard; communicate written and verbally; and have functional hearing.
- Must pass a medical examination to ensure fitness for the job
- Must pass drug and alcohol screening
- Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Grade 1 Operator (Water Treatment or Distribution) within one year of employment or next level if hired with existing operator grade
- Receive positive regular performance evaluations from supervisors
