Position: Wastewater Systems Technician I & II — Field, On‑Call

Overview

Team Gilbert is seeking a highly motivated professional to fill the position of Wastewater Utility Worker I & II. The focus is on providing best‑in‑class service to citizens while offering opportunities for professional growth in a rewarding and innovative work environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on wastewater systems and reclaimed water distribution systems, including monitoring water volumes delivered to basins and customer sites.
  • Troubleshoot system problems and recommend corrective actions.
  • Fill percolation ponds according to predetermined schedules, revising schedules as needed.
  • Operate, inspect, and maintain reclaimed water distribution infrastructure: log daily records, interpret meter, gauge, chart, and instrument readings, and detect mechanical or process deficiencies.
  • Perform maintenance, inspection, and repair of wastewater collection assets such as gravity mains, force mains, manholes, and lift stations safely and proficiently.
  • Operate a variety of equipment, including a utility truck, dump truck, tractors, skid loaders, backhoes, excavators, CCTV equipment, and combination sewer cleaners.
  • Be available 24/7 for emergencies and after‑hours callouts, and on‑call as required.
  • Read and interpret engineering plans, architectural plans, and blueprints.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, county, and local regulations and laws.
Physical Demands And Working Conditions

This is a heavy‑work position that spends most of its workday outdoors in a field environment. Physical exertion levels are defined by the Social Security Administration.

General Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Up to 1 year of specialized or technical training beyond high school in water, wastewater or related field (may include on‑the‑job training).
  • Up to 1 year of experience in water, reclaimed water distribution, or wastewater collection systems maintenance.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities.
Requirements for Wastewater Worker I
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Up to 1 year of specialized or technical training beyond high school in water, wastewater or related field.
  • Up to 1 year of experience in water, reclaimed water distribution system operation, including maintenance practices or general construction.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the requisite knowledge and abilities.
Licensing / Certifications for Wastewater Worker I
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License Permit (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement with no air brake restrictions at hire; obtain Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement within 6 months.
  • Maintain commercial driver’s license as a condition of employment.
  • ADEQ Grade I Wastewater Collections or Grade I Water Distribution Certification within 1 year.
  • Office of Pest Management Pesticide Applicator’s License may be required within 1 year.
  • NASSCO Certification for pipe assessment and manhole assessment preferred.
Pay Range for Wastewater Worker I

$21.93 – $31.79

Requirements for Wastewater Worker II
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of specialized or technical training beyond high school in water, wastewater or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in water or reclaimed water distribution system operation, including maintenance practices or general construction.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the requisite knowledge and abilities.
Licensing / Certifications for Wastewater Worker II
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement with no air brake restrictions upon hire.
  • Maintain commercial driver’s license as a condition of employment.
  • ADEQ Grade I Wastewater Collections or Grade II Water Distribution Certification upon hire.

Employment Details

This position is at‑will and is FLSA non‑exempt, eligible for overtime compensation.
