Construction Helper

The Construction Helper supports a variety of construction activities on a large industrial campus, including basic building tasks, material handling, site clean-up, and equipment rigging. This role involves working both indoors and outdoors, assisting with the construction of cleanroom sublayers, and using hand and power tools to build and install structural components and tools. The position is physically demanding, requires consistent adherence to safety procedures, and offers extensive hands-on training with opportunities to grow into more advanced roles over time.

Responsibilities

  • Build grid structures using a variety of hand and power tools in accordance with project specifications and safety guidelines.
  • Assist with wall penetrations and the construction of floors, walls, ceilings, and other sublayers of clean rooms.
  • Perform basic construction tasks such as building structures, installing racks, and assisting with tool installation.
  • Organize materials on the job site, dispose of debris, and perform general clean-up to maintain a safe and orderly work area.
  • Use hand and power tools for cutting, fastening, measuring, and assembly as directed by supervisors and leads.
  • Support material handling activities, including moving racking systems and heavy equipment associated with tool installation.
  • Assist with rigging heavy equipment safely under guidance, following established procedures and safety standards.
  • Work within a buddy system at all times to promote safety, communication, and teamwork on the job site.
  • Lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Work in outdoor environments in both hot and cold weather, as well as in cleanroom environments when required.
  • Follow all site-specific safety rules and procedures, including those related to tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
  • Participate in training to learn how to operate forklifts and scissor lifts, and apply this training to daily work once qualified.
  • Use measuring tools such as tape measures and levels to support accurate construction and installation work.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and staging materials and equipment for ongoing construction activities.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition, store them properly, and ensure they are secure when not in use.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, leads, and supervisors to understand daily tasks, priorities, and safety expectations.
  • Support landscaping or general labor tasks as needed to keep the worksite clean, organized, and safe.

Essential Skills

  • Previous experience performing manual labor or general construction tasks, such as basic building, assembly, or site clean-up in residential or commercial settings.
  • Ability to use common hand tools safely and effectively, including hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, snips, and tape measures.
  • Comfort working in basic construction roles that involve building structures, installing racks, and assisting with tool installation.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn how to operate equipment such as forklifts and scissor lifts.
  • Capability to move materials and assist with rigging or using equipment to relocate heavy items.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly during the workday.
  • Willingness to work in outdoor conditions, including heat and cold, as well as in cleanroom environments when required.
  • Strong commitment to following safety rules and procedures at all times.
  • Ability to work effectively in a buddy system and contribute positively to a team-oriented environment.
  • Basic understanding of using a tape measure and level to support accurate construction work.
  • Willingness to work early morning shifts and be open to overtime, including Saturdays.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 certification is preferred; training will be provided if not already obtained.
  • Experience on clean-up crews, either residential or commercial, is beneficial.
  • Prior experience moving materials using rigging techniques or forklifts is helpful.
  • Comfort working in clean rooms and wearing specialized protective clothing such as a bunny suit when required.
  • Basic knowledge of framing, assembly, and production-related construction tasks is an advantage.
  • Experience with landscaping or general labor work is useful.
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality for early morning start times.
  • Ability to learn and follow detailed instructions related to construction, rigging, and equipment operation.
  • Interest in developing a long-term career in the construction industry with potential advancement into lead, supervisor, or project management roles.
