Bus Driver - Special Needs

Bus Driver for transporting students on scheduled routes and special excursions, ensuring vehicle operation and student safety.

Responsibilities
  • Advises students, supervisors and passengers of behavior requirements for safety.
  • Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents or potential emergencies for resolution.
  • Assists students and supervisors with safe ingress and egress from buses including emergency evacuations.
  • Attends safety meetings and trainings relating to state and district requirements.
  • Cleans assigned vehicles, interior and exterior, to maintain appearance, sanitation and safety.
  • Communicates with students, supervisors, parents, staff, police, etc. to provide or acquire information.
  • Conducts semi‑annual emergency drills to ensure readiness.
  • Drives school vehicles (buses, vans, etc.) on scheduled routes and excursions.
  • Inspects vehicles pre‑ and post‑trip to ensure safe operating condition and meet state requirements.
  • Monitors bus operations, route conditions and rider activities for safety.
  • Prepares reports and documents (incident reports, student counts, daily mileage, etc.) for safety, legal and maintenance purposes.

Experience, Education and Certifications
  • Job related experience required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Commercial Driver’s License.
  • School Bus Driver Certificate.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid Certificate.
  • Pre‑employment and annual testing: alcohol & drug test, DOT medical exam, DPS Physical Agility Test.
