NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB

The purpose of Autism Spectrum Disorder Teacher is to provide needed educational service for children identified with autism spectrum disorders.

JOB FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Abides by Board policies and other state and federal regulations concerning students with disabilities.
  • When appropriate, serves on multidisciplinary teams and serves as case facilitator when needed.
  • Provides the guidance for the teachers and para-educators of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  • Serves as a consultant and provides in-service training to teachers, parents, and others concerned.
  • Is responsible for the development of Individual Education Programs (IEP) for students with disabilities; implements the IEP; and uses diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update IEPs as needed.
  • Implement best practice and evidence based strategies that work effectively with students with Autism.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of behavior support plans by monitoring student behavior; maintaining discipline in the classroom; de‑escalating inappropriate behaviors; and teaching appropriate behavioral strategies.
  • Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs. Implementation of these methods may require the adaptation or development of materials.
  • Plan and implement academic instruction for students who exhibit communication, social and behavioral challenges using evidence based methods.
  • Plan and implement non‑academic instruction in areas such as social skills, toilet training, and community based instruction.
  • Supervise and provide necessary training for Para‑professionals.
  • OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Participates in professional activities as part of the assignment.
  • Ensures professional growth through conferences, workshops, in‑services and related professional readings.
  • Performs any other duties assigned by supervisor(s).

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS

    Must possess a Wyoming State Teaching Certificate in Special Education.

    Must possess a valid Wyoming Driver’s License.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND MENTAL ABILITY
    • Possess a broad general knowledge of all subject areas with specific knowledge needed in contract areas.
    • Possess group dynamics and interpersonal skills.
    • Possess knowledge of physiological, psychological, emotional, and educational behavioral development of children.
    • Possess classroom developmentally appropriate management skills which include discipline as well as record keeping and assessment abilities.
    • Possess technological and computer skills.
    • Possess problem solving, imagination, patience, reasoning, creativity, judgment, and analytical abilities.
    • Possess a general knowledge of Federal Special Education Law.
    EDUCATION, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR FORMAL TRAINING
    • Possess all certificates required for the State of Wyoming.
    • Possess at a minimum a Bachelor's Degree.
    • Continue to pursue graduate level classes for professional growth.
