This position requires a physical examination for hiring.
Hours: 7.5 hours per day / 187 day school year
Purpose StatementThe Instructional Assistant supports teachers and students to achieve academic and behavioral goals, provides referrals, performs clerical duties, and complies with school regulations.
Essential Functions- Develop procedures and training materials for students with emotional disabilities to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Attend meetings and training sessions (e.g., in‑service, workshops, IEPs, Building Intervention Team).
- Conduct workshops, training, and presentations to develop skills and build relationships with students with behavioral disorders.
- Implement programs (behavioral plans, lesson plans, disciplinary actions) under teacher direction to advance students’ academic and life‑skill success.
- Instruct identified students individually or in small groups (math, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing, verbal skills) to progress toward IEP goals.
- Perform record keeping and clerical functions (displaying bulletin boards, copying, collecting & grading papers) to support teachers.
- Prepare written and audiovisual materials (daily log, observations, lesson materials) for student communication.
- Promote good habits to improve student outcomes and encourage development.
- Supervise students on field trips, in classroom, on the bus, playground, lunchroom, etc. to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Assist other personnel as required to maintain an efficient work environment.
Work under limited supervision, direct other staff in small units, manage budgets, and utilize resources across units.
Work EnvironmentPhysical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling. Typical work distribution: 40% sitting, 30% walking, 30% standing. The role involves minimal temperature variation and some hazardous conditions.
Qualifications- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Job‑related experience required.
- Knowledge of age‑appropriate activities, child development stages, Applied Behavioral Analysis, safety practices.
- Skills:
first aid, safety practices, office equipment operation, accurate record maintenance, communication with diverse groups. - Ability to schedule activities, analyze data, solve problems independently, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate patience and compassion.
- Certifications:
CPR/First Aid Certificate (training provided). - Clearance:
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.

Salary: $21.41 – $23.39 per hour
