Environmental Compliance, Environmental Engineer
Overview
Generally responsible for environmental compliance activities for divisional facilities in Wyoming. This position will report to the Division Environmental Manager and will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced oil and gas environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting implementation of environmental programs for compliance with environmental laws and regulations as applicable to the upstream and midstream sectors of the oil and gas industry.
This position works closely and in conjunction with operations staff and other environmental staff and acts as a liaison between the division and environmental agencies, including coordination of agency inspections and follow-up activities. The working knowledge required includes regulatory assessments of divisional locations and maintaining proficient knowledge of applicable regulations. The candidate should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and communication skills.
The role requires outdoor work, with travel to field/facility sites; travel estimates are 20% office and 80% field work, with infrequent travel to Divisional or Corporate Headquarters.
- Promote environmental awareness at all levels of field management and operations, including recurring monthly training of field operation personnel on various standard and/or emerging environmental matters.
- Maintain a current working knowledge of environmental regulations pertinent to oil and gas operations at federal, state, and local levels.
- Perform field environmental activities which may include compliance inspections, sampling of media, well gauging, GPS surveying, supervision of monitor well installation and remedial activities.
- Use technologies including FLIR to evaluate and inspect sites for internal and agency purposes of compliance and process improvement.
- Provide minor maintenance support to operations in support of compliance programs (e.g., air quality, SPCC, storm water) and meet applicable repair deadlines.
- With the Air team, advise production operations and facility engineers on permitting requirements and obligations, emission control options, facility design and air compliance documentation.
- Develop and maintain relationships, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet often aggressive project deadlines.
- Develop site facility/security diagrams and record equipment inventories to support compliance programs (e.g., air permitting, GHG, SPCC).
- Support maintenance of plans including SPCC, storm water, waste management, and other related compliance plans.
- Input, monitor, and trend environmental data to inform and support proactive programs of prevention, compliance and operations management.
- Support annual implementation of internal audit program to ensure comprehensive compliance within the basin.
- Attend industry trade group meetings and participate in industry regulatory efforts.
- Demonstrate knowledge to prevent, respond, mitigate and remediate impacts from operational spills and leaks, including preparation of spill notifications and reports to applicable agencies.
- Assist and support air emission testing, notification and reporting as required by federal and state permits and regulations.
- Other duties as required to support operations related to environmental compliance, and as assigned by the environmental manager.
- Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in environmental science, applied science, engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 2+ years of related environmental experience; oil and gas-related experience preferred.
- Capable of performing on-call duties as necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and prepare reports and other related correspondence, internal and external.
- Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Organized and able to manage multiple concurrent activities and programs with accuracy and timeliness.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and related internal programs; ability to foster collaboration with diverse multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to perform job functions independently and manage assigned duties with limited supervision.
Position will be filled at a level commensurate with experience.
