Simon is a subsidiary of Colas USA with operations throughout Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming, specializing in aggregate, asphalt, and ready‑mix concrete production.
Job Summary:Responsible for testing and inspection of aggregate, asphalt, concrete and/or emulsions products produced and delivered to internal and external customers.
Main Responsibilities:- Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Simon Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
- Support, promote, and practice the Company’s core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
- Read, understand, and demonstrate working knowledge of the basic specifications, principles, and products associated with the construction, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt industry
- Inspect products for quality, identify and take corrective action as necessary
- Ensure that accurate test results are reported in a timely manner; review and analyze test results to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications
- Conduct assigned work according to company policies, regulatory agency guidance and compliance standards
- Safely operate company vehicles to travel to other offices and work locations as necessary
- Additional duties as assigned by QC Technician 3 or above
- High School diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree in related discipline preferred
- ACI and DOT testing certified, or ability to become certified within 1 year; other certifications may be required
- Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a clean driving record required
- Prior experience related to quality control methods, materials production, construction processes and/or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred, but not required
- Prior experience performing quality control testing of aggregates, asphalt and/or ready‑mix concrete highly preferred, but not required
- Ability to learn and interpret applicable reference and testing material manuals and specifications governed by federal, state and local testing agencies, to include DOT, ASTM, and AASHTO standards
- Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively to all levels of employees, both individually and in large groups
- Ability to work with a team to resolve technical issues
- Basic computer skills including use of MS Office Products
- Wears and maintains required PPE to ensure safe performance of job responsibilities as required
- Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 70 pounds with or without assistance to handle materials, tools, equipment, or documents essential to the role
- Regularly required to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects to conduct accurate inspections and operate tools or equipment
- Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) to exchange essential information, receive instructions, and ensure safe and effective work coordination
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to access, inspect, and evaluate products, machinery, or work areas
- Regularly exposed to moving equipment and machinery, dust, chemicals, and all types of weather to complete inspections and quality tasks within active work zones
- Frequently stands, walks, sits, reaches, and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls to access work areas and complete required tasks
- Frequently works in environments that may include loud noise, moving equipment, dust, or varying indoor/outdoor conditions depending on operational needs
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and overtime; overnight travel may be required
