The Safety Specialist is primarily responsible for ensuring all Wescom employees in assigned location have all the tools they need to perform their work safely. The Safety Specialist will work closely with the operations managers, supervisors and employees of assigned locations determining current job tasks, hazards of those jobs, and possible mitigations. Daily site visits, safety engagements, and constant communication with the entire team will ensure success and participation by all employees.

The Safety Specialist plays an important role in ensuring Wescom’s entire team embraces and practices safety every day, every moment.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Plan and conduct daily safety meeting onsite including all affected parties documenting work scope, identifying hazards associated with the work, and ways of mitigating.
  • Plan and conduct weekly company location safety meeting.
  • Initiate safety directives that are meaningful, impactful, and relevant for a successful project completion.
  • Perform multiple job walks throughout the day checking to ensure crew members are following safety protocols and identifying possible new hazards and mitigations.
  • Conduct random audits on various safety programs to ensure employees understand them.
  • Attend weekly management meetings to ensure one safety voice company wide.
  • Ensure all tools, vehicles, and equipment are utilized according to manufacturer and Wescom specifications and follow state, federal and tribal laws and regulations.
  • Post state and federal required postings including OSHA 300 logs in designated areas.
  • Train and track employees on Wescom’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform new hire orientation including drug testing with an emphasis on Wescom’s specific guidelines related to safety.
  • Participation on the safety committee.
  • Be an active safety role model and follow all safety requirements.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma required.
  • Willingness and desire to learn and be trained.
  • Knowledge of industrial processes, including oil field, with at least 2 years of experience.
Hours
  • Expect 72 hours per week
  • Start time: 6:0 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday–Saturday
  • Additional overtime, as needed

The Safety Specialist Contract reports to the Safety Director. Several career paths are available for the right individual, including:

  • Full-time safety specialist up to the safety director
  • Reassigning to a different location
  • Moving to an asset specialist position
  • Other operational positions
