About the role
The Mid-West Area Sales Manager (ASM) is the primary external representative of Sulzer’s Electro Mechanical Services (EMS) and is financially responsible for the Order Intake, Gross Profit Margin, and Operating Net Cash‑Flow. The ASM engages clients, promotes Sulzer’s RES businesses (Pumps and Turbo), and provides full RES Services from first contact to the closure of orders and project completion. The ASM works closely with inside sales, business process, operations, engineering, finance, quality control, safety, and HR teams to secure, ship, and invoice profitable orders.
Responsibilities- Meet or exceed the Order Intake budget for the assigned area/product line.
- Develop, sell and maintain all business responsibilities for the assigned area/product line.
- Develop and implement sales strategies consistent with the goals of the Sulzer Plan, and support and monitor sales activity within the area/product line.
- Develop and deliver technical and commercially superior proposals to the client.
- Support all business activities with the client through closing and invoicing.
- Develop, maintain and report accurate sales forecasts.
- Review RFPs, contracts, purchase orders and terms for all business opportunities.
- Control all business expenses as if they were your own.
- Be proficient with and maintain Salesforce: opportunities, outage tracking, market condition events, trip call reports and competition updates.
- Coordinate, plan, attend and execute promotional trade‑show events.
- Participate in quarterly sales calls or meetings with the management team.
- Frequently travel into the assigned area.
- Support Sulzer strategic initiatives on safety, business, ethics and quality.
- Present a positive, proactive, professional attitude and appearance at all times.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business is preferred.
- 5+ years of industry knowledge and experience with electric motors and generators.
- Previous experience proactively influencing or closing business with clients, co‑workers and/or commercial peers.
- In‑depth knowledge of motors, generators and understanding of Sulzer’s complete product line.
- Ability to understand, interpret and discuss technical and commercial documents.
- High personal standards of character and impeccable moral and ethical behavior.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to read, write and discuss micro details and macro situations, as well as interpersonal skills to interface with personnel from diverse backgrounds at all levels of client organizations.
- Willingness to travel frequently and bring business back as a result.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, including meeting demanding deadlines.
- Understanding of basic financial statements.
- Proficiency or quick ability to learn Salesforce.
- Proficient use of other Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. to support selling activities.
